Whiting informeert rijders over kwalificatieformat

Charlie Whiting, wedstrijddirecteur bij de internationale autosportbond FIA, praat de coureurs momenteel bij over het kwalificatieformat voor komend seizoen. Dat onderwerp heeft de afgelopen dagen al meerdere wendingen genomen. Het lijkt er nu op dat een andere opzet van de kwalificatie van kracht zal zijn voor de eerste Grand Prix van 2016.

Diverse coureurs krijgen nu tekst en uitleg in de hospitality unit van de FIA op Circuit de Catalunya nabij Barcelona. Onder meer Kimi Raikkonen, Kevin Magnussen, Felipe Massa, Nico Rosberg, Sergio Perez en Esteban Gutierrez zitten aan de tafel bij de federatie. Max Verstappen en Carlos Sainz schuiven ook net aan, evenals Jenson Button.

Whiting voert continu het woord. Wellicht bespreekt hij meer dan alleen een nieuw kwalificatieformat. Een eliminatiesysteem is bedacht voor Q1 en Q2 in Australië, maar voor 2017 staan meer nieuwe regels op de rol, waaronder een 'halo' om de hoofden van de rijders te beschermen. Dat zal ook ter sprake komen.

Max Verstappen nam in sommige discussies nadrukkelijk het woord en mengde zich in de gesprekken met Whiting. Verder roerden vooral Jenson Button en Nico Rosberg zich in de gesprekken. De Nederlander wilde bij het naar buiten lopen tegen onze redactie weinig zeggen: "Er valt weinig te bespreken eigenlijk."

Force India-rijder Sergio Perez reageerde voor de camera's van Sky Sports F1 als volgt: "We zijn natuurlijk niet blij met de nieuwe plannen die ze willen implementeren."

      Ik denk ook niet dat het een echte verbetering is. Dat ding heeft een stalen paaltje direct voor het hoofd van de rijder. Bij een impact slaat die daar direct met zijn hoofd tegenaan. dan krijg je het Bianci effect direct in de auto. Bovendien beperkt het het uitzicht van de rijder. Ik denk dat het averechts werkt.

      En we horen straks van Carlos wel weer hoe het zit. Heb straks weer een stukje van hem gelezen.pppffff Hij zwakt de woorden van zijn baas Tost af dat TR dit jaar een podium kan pakken. Meneer praat graag , ben nu echt klaar met deze Carlos. Nog niks gepresteeert en nu zelf tost wel eventjes corrigeren. Maar dit is duidelijk off topic, sorry ik wind me ff op.

      Heeft duidelijk geen kaas gegeten van communicatie.
      Tja, dan moet hij ook niet vreemd opkijken als Toro Rosso op een gegeven moment afscheid van hem neemt...

      Carlos z'n sponsor Cepsa is ook verdwenen, dat zal ook niet meehelpen. Ik hoop voor hem dat hij zich dit jaar echt bewijst, hij kan het zich niet meer veroorloven om met zo'n puntenachterstand als vorig jaar te eindigen. Let wel, ik vind het een goede jongen en een prima coureur en gun hem zeker zijn plek in F1 maar zijn uitspraken maken hem niet altijd even geliefd binnen het team vermoed ik, je moet weten wanneer je wel wat moet zeggen maar je moet ook weten wanneer je je stil dient te houden. Max is daar veel beter in.

      Ik denk dat Carlos zijn probleem ook vooral in de mensen zit waar die mee spreekt.... proberen hem antwoorden in de mond te leggen én zijn volgens mij ook niet te beroerd om eens een woordje te verdraaien... tel daarbij op dat die spaanse (roddel)persberichten daarna weer vertaald (of geinterpreteerd) worden in het Engels en voila!........ Kletskous Carlos is geboren.. maw, ik denk dat het wel meevalt ;)

    Als je de reactie's van Max en Perez hoort, word het de coureurs dus "gewoon" als een stel kleine kinderen door de neus geboord door Charlie Poetin van de FIA. De mening van coureurs, teams en fans is natuurlijk totaal niet belangrijk voor een goed uithangbordje voor de F1.

      Inderdaad, want wanneer de FIA en Ecclestone met alle teams en rijders moeten overleggen om tot een akkoord te komen wordt het een lang verhaal. Laten we de ontwerpers en engineers er ook bij betrekken en wellicht de dame van het hospitality unit ook. Doen ze bij Saubers immers ook al enige jaren met wisselend succes, die dame om raad vragen!

      De FIFA en EUFA gaat toch ook niet aan Messi en Ronaldo vragen wat zij van de nieuwe regels vinden. Die hebben ze gewoon uit te voeren!
