Honda bevestigt nieuwe aandrijflijn voor Alonso

McLaren-coureur Fernando Alonso krijgt zoals verwacht een volledig nieuwe aandrijflijn in zijn auto gemonteerd voor het weekend in Bahrein. De Spanjaard vloog in Australië hard van de baan. Niet alleen zijn wagen raakte beschadigd, ook zijn aandrijflijn kwam niet ongeschonden uit de strijd.

Yusuke Hasegawa, baas van het Formule 1-project bij McLaren-partner Honda: "We hebben de aandrijflijn van Fernando onderzocht en tot onze grote teleurstelling waren de verbrandingsmotor en de omringende onderdelen zwaar beschadigd. De impact van de crash was gewoon te groot. We vervangen de complete aandrijflijn van Alonso voor Bahrein."

Coureurs mogen dit jaar vijf exemplaren van elk onderdeel van de aandrijflijn gebruiken. De teller van Alonso staat door diens heftige ongeluk in Melbourne vroeg in het seizoen al op twee.
