Merhi fantaseert over mogelijke terugkeer in F1

Roberto Merhi racet komend seizoen in het World Endurance Championship voor het LMP2-team van Manor. De Spanjaard komt daar oude bekenden tegen als Will Stevens, Graeme Lowdon en John Booth. De eerste was vorig jaar zijn teamgenoot bij Manor Marussia, de andere twee gaven hem de kans om te debuteren in de Formule 1.

Merhi heeft de koningsklasse van de autosport nog niet uit zijn hoofd gezet. In El Confidencial zegt hij: "Zonder sponsoring is het lastig om in de Formule 1 te blijven, al waren er wel mogelijkheden om als reserverijder aan de slag te gaan. Manor is een team dat ik goed ken uit de Formule 3 en de Formule 1. Dit aanbod beviel me wel, we zien wel wat de toekomst brengt."

"Ik had niet verwacht dat het nieuws deze week al naar buiten zou komen. Tot mijn grote verbazing stond mijn telefoon vol berichten toen ik wakker werd. Het doel is om fit te blijven en wedstrijdritme te houden. De LMP2 is een goede klasse met het oog op een mogelijke toekomst in de LMP1. En wie weet, misschien keer ik ooit terug in de Formule 1."
