Verstappen en Sainz krijgen les in temporiseren

Scuderia Toro Rosso-rijders Max Verstappen en Carlos Sainz verlenen op 8 mei hun medewerking aan de Wings for Life Run 2016. Verstappen zal in Breda de zogenaamde 'Catcher Car' besturen, Sainz doet hetzelfde in Valencia. Ter voorbereiding kregen ze van voormalig atleet Colin Jackson een lesje in het aanhouden van een vast, langzaam tempo.

"Normaal ga ik zo'n 325 kilometer per uur", stelt Verstappen. "Maar deze keer ga ik voor de afstand, niet de snelheid. Ik wil als laatste Catcher Car bestuurder over blijven. Ik wil degene zijn die de wereldwijde winnaar inhaalt!"

Sainz vult aan: "Ik bestuur de Catcher Car voor thuispubliek in Spanje. Ik weet niet wat Max denkt, maar natuurlijk zal de wereldwijde winnaar daar gekroond worden. Met mijn uithoudingsvermogen kan ik zo lang doorgaan als dat nodig is."

"Maar serieus, we zijn allemaal erg onder de indruk van deze hardlopers: allemaal wereldwijd op hetzelfde moment aan het hardlopen om geld in te zamelen en bewustzijn te creëren voor onderzoek naar dwarslaesie. Of het nou absolute beginners zijn of doorgewinterde langeafstandslopers, zij maken een verschil, en geloof me, ik ga ze flink toejuichen wanneer ik voorbij rijd."
