Wehrlein geniet van Chinese Grand Prix

Na een uitstekend optreden in Bahrein liet Pascal Wehrlein ook in China zien dat Manor Racing niet meer de lantaarndrager is in de Formule. De Duitser, vorig jaar de jongste kampioen in de DTM ooit, kende een goede start en lag na de Safety Car uiteindelijk op een vierde plaats. Uiteraard kon Manor dat niet volhouden, maar de achttiende plaats aan de finish stemt Wehrlein tevreden. Teamgenoot Rio Haryanto wist Jolyon Palmer in de Renault achter zich te houden en finishte als 21ste.

Wehrlein laat in een reactie het volgende weten:"We hebben weer veel positieve dingen uit deze race kunnen halen. Opnieuw waren we in gevecht met andere teams en konden we een aantal auto's inhalen. De start was goed en na de Safety Car lag ik zelfs vierde. Ik wist dat we dat niet konden volhouden, maar mooi was het wel. De race verliep daarna naar wens en we finishten op een plaats waar we momenteel staan.

Dave Ryan, racedirecteur van Manor, laat weten ook tevreden te zijn over het optreden van Rio Haryanto: "Rio probeerde het gat naar Nasr dicht te rijden, maar dat lukte niet. Ons doel in de laatste stint was om Palmer achter ons te houden en dat lukte zonder al te veel moeite. Onze dag was beter dan gisteren en we zijn blij dat we weer met beide auto's aan de finish zijn gekomen."

Met een Wehrlein, een Vandoorne en natuurlijk een Verstappen blijf ik de F1-weekendjes de volgende jaren wel markeren in de agenda.

Natuurlijk was die vierde plek niet vast te houden, maar op dat moment reden beide Williamsen erachter (dacht ik?) en die kwamen er ook niet echt voorbij op dat moment. Uiteraard allemaal niet even realistisch, maar hij reed er toch maar even en dat was een mooi gezicht!
