Palmer: "China slechtste weekend uit loopbaan"

Renault-coureur Jolyon Palmer heeft zijn Grand Prix van China omschreven als het slechtste weekend uit zijn loopbaan. Na de kwalificatie noemde hij zijn negentiende tijd al 'catastrofaal slecht' en in de race eindigde hij als allerlaatste. De GP2-kampioen van 2014 heeft er geen verklaring voor.

Palmer vertrouwde Autosport toe: "Ik had minder aerodynamische grip, maar dat zagen we alleen in de kwalificatie. Enkele onderdelen waren beschadigd. Dat wisten we deels te verhelpen voor de race, maar de aerodynamische achterstand bleef. Ook kwam de safety car op een voor ons ongunstig moment de baan op, dat hielp onze strategie om zeep."

"Maar we moeten in de spiegel kijken en eerst bij onszelf te rade gaan. We dienen de auto te verbeteren, pas daarna kunnen we de strategie onder de loep nemen. Voor mij persoonlijk was dit misschien wel het slechtste weekend uit mijn loopbaan. Het was erg slecht. Hier leer ik weer van. Zo bezien was het een nuttige ervaring, maar het was heel zwaar."

Ik denk dat we Palmer in 2017 niet meer op de F1-grid zien.

    Nou dat is dan mooi dat hij zijn slechtste weekend heeft gehad, dus vanaf nu gaat het goed komen.;)

      Ik vrees dat zijn bodem nog niet bereikt is. Aan de motor kan het niet liggen. Kijk maar naar wat RB er mee kan. Nu zijn zowel Palmer als Magnussen niet van het niveau van Kvyat en Ricciardo, maar ik denk eerlijk gezegd dat Renault momenteel gewoon een zeer slecht chassis heeft.

      Niet te vlug oordelen. Deze rijder heeft degelijk racetalent.
      In de F1 is het de afgelopen 3 races er nog niet uitgekomen maar deze Renault is nu ook niet bepaald top.

    Chassis niet best he, bij Lotus maakte de mercedes motor veel goed. Zie maar bij Manor, staan in de lijst met hoogste topsnelheden maar bakken er dankzij een veel mindere auto in de race niet heel veel van.

    De race was niet veel anders dan Palmer in zijn eerste seizoen GP2, toen was het constant stijf onderaan en eindigde hij als 28e en laatste in het kampioenschap.

    Het GP2 Kampioenschap in 2014 (na 4 jaar GP2) heeft hij bij het beste team in een behoorlijk zwak veld behaald.

    Palmer was in andere jaren gewoon de mindere van Ericsson en Nasr (in hetzelfde team).

      Zijn vader was ook al geen hoogvlieger. De Britten kunnen hun hoop maar beter niet op Jolyon richten.

      Vandoorne is een fantastisch talent, maar als in de GP2 een rookie je grootste concurrent is zegt dat een hoop over het niveau van het veld.

      Nasr is toch een pannenkoek? Vorig jaar had hij wel een redelijke eerste race, maar toen had hij al ontzettend veel geluk. Daarna heeft Nasr voornamelijk slechte races gereden, maar met heel veel geluk af en toe toch nog punten gehaald.

      Nasr is alsnog beter dan Palmer alleen reed Nasr in de GP2 niet voor DAMS. Bij hetzelfde team werd Palmer het jaar ervoor gewoon verslagen door Nasr.

      Ericsson is beter dan Nasr en Nasr is beter dan Palmer en zelfs bij Ericsson is het maar randje F1 waardig (al heeft die zich wel behoorlijk verbeterd in de laatste 2 jaar)

    Die Magnusson is ook veel beter dan velen hier (inc mijzelf) dachten.

    Die jongen heeft bij McLaren veel geleerd naast Button en blijkt een waardevolle kracht te zijn voor Renault.

    Denk dat ook Ocon nog een zware dobber aan 'm gaat hebben over 1 jaar.

      Veel beter dan wat? Palmer? Nou dat dacht ik vooraf al.
      Beter dan Ocon? Dat moet ik nog eens zien.
      In ieder geval niet beter dan Button (over een seizoen dan), en die wordt al door velen afgeschreven hier.

    Als je een slechtere dag hebt valt dat in een auto die al niet schitterend is natuurlijk direct op. Stel dat Rosberg een mindere dag heeft zou hij nog op het podium staan...
