Vergne hoopt op bandentest 2017

Jean-Eric Vergne denkt de nieuwe tests die voor Pirelli zijn ingepland hem een kans zullen geven om terug te keren op de grid.

Nadat Pirelli had gedreigd om de sport te verlaten als zij zich niet goed genoeg konden voorbereiden op de nieuwe bandenregelgeving, hebben ze 25 dagen gekregen om de nieuwe, bredere band te testen.

Vijf topteams, waaronder Ferrari, hebben aangeboden om Pirelli te helpen met het testen. Bij de tests is het de bedoeling dat er niet alleen met de huidige auto's wordt gereden, maar ook met aangepaste 2013- en 2014 auto's.

Voormalig Toro Rosso-coureur Vergne racet dit seizoen in de Formule E, met daarnaast een rol als simulatorcoureur bij Ferrari.

"Het is geweldig om deel uit te mogen maken van de Scuderia. Ik ben er dan ook zeker van dat er later dit jaar voor mij kansen zullen opdoemen bij het team. Niet tijdens het Grand Prix-weekend, maar misschien wel bij de Pirelli-test", vertelde hij aan Canal Plus.

De 25-jarige Vergne is niet alleen simulatorcoureur, maar ook testrijder bij Ferrari.

"Ik ben gewoon bij alle races, je weet immers nooit wat er kan gebeuren. Kijk maar wat er met Alonso gebeurde tijdens de Grand Prix van Australië. Aangezien dat bij iedereen kan gebeuren, sta ik altijd klaar", voegt hij toe.
