McLaren zet in op plekje in Q3

Het team van McLaren kende een goede vrijdag in Sochi. De Britse formatie zat in beide sessies stevig in het middenveld en hoopt de lijn door te kunnen trekken naar de kwalificatie. Minimaal een auto in Q3, dat is het doel van het team. McLaren kende in de vorige races ook een goede vrijdag, maar kon die snelheid niet altijd doortrekken naar de rest van het weekend.

Fernando Alonso blaast niet te hoog van de toren na zijn eerste dag op het circuit in Rusland: "Wanneer het lukt om met een van onze wagens in Q3 te komen, mogen we tevreden zijn. De auto voelt goed, maar we hebben in de vorige races gezien dat het op zaterdag en zondag helemaal anders kan zijn. We moeten de auto nog verder verbeteren en moeten hopen dat we sterk genoeg zijn voor Q3."

Teamgenoot Jenson Button is ook tevreden met zijn eerste werkdag op het Sochi Autodrom: "Het ging goed, al zijn we op vrijdag wel vaker sterk geweest dit seizoen. Hopelijk lukt het ons om in Q3 te komen en weer wat punten te halen. Een plek in de derde kwalificatie beperkt je vrijheid in strategie, maar stelt je ook dan in staat een goede race te rijden."
