Max Verstappen en zijn langzaamste inhaalrace

Max Verstappen vormde zondag in Breda de rijdende finishlijn tijdens de Wings for Life World Run. De 18-jarige Formule 1-coureur stapte een half uur na het startschot in zijn auto en haalde de 3.641 deelnemers één voor één in. Uiteindelijk wist de Peruaanse atleet Emerson Trujillo, Verstappen het langst voor te blijven en werd na 64,4 kilometer alsnog ingehaald en tot winnaar in Nederland gekroond.

De Wings for Life World Run is een wereldwijde hardloopwedstrijd die dit jaar in 33 landen synchroon werd gelopen door 130.732 deelnemers. In totaal werd een bedrag opgehaald van 6,6 miljoen euro. Deze opbrengst komt volledig ten goede aan de Wings for Life Foundation, die onderzoek doet naar de genezing van dwarslaesie.

Een goed doel waar Max Verstappen ondanks zijn drukke schema graag tijd voor vrij maakt: "Ik heb begrepen dat onderzoekers de oplossing op het spoor zijn, maar daar is nog meer onderzoek en dus geld voor nodig. Het is mooi dat dit met de Wings for Life World Run mogelijk wordt gemaakt, want uiteindelijk wil je dat iedereen zou kunnen rennen", vertelt de jonge Nederlander.

De Italiaan Giorgio Calcaterra won de wereldwijde race in een nieuw record. Hij werd pas na een ongelooflijke afstand van 88,4 km ingehaald. Bij de vrouwen won de Japanse Yoshisa na een minstens net zo indrukwekkende afstand van 65,7 km te hebben afgelegd.

Indrukwekkend! Heel goed initiatief. Moeten ze vaker doen en met een combinatie met een F1 rijder (hoeft niet een VES te zijn) is het voor ons ook boeiender om dit te volgen. :-)

  Is wereldweid in 34 landen op hetzelfde moment. In meer landen worden Formule1 coureurs ingezet. Zo nam in Spanje Carlos Sainz plaats in de catcher car en in Australie David Couldhard. Vorige jaren zat in nederland Tom Coronel achter het stuur

Off topic. Niet zo langzaam Max, want Carlos haalt je in. Volgens Marco vanochtend: carlos is optimistisch, want Max is naar RB en hij heeft eerder wat pech gehad. Dus Max hij komt eraan... Dit was te verwachten, je kunt veel van Carlos zeggen, maar zijn sterke punt is dat hij consequent is... De echte uitsmijter in Marca is dat hij bemoedigende woorden heeft voor Alonso, je moet maar durven...je hebt geen gevoel voor je plek in de pikorde, ook daarin is hij consequent.
