Kevin Magnussen bij Renault beter op zijn plek

Kevin Magnussen steekt goed in zijn vel bij het team van Renault. De Deen kreeg begin dit jaar onverwacht de kans om terug te keren op de Formule 1-grid door betalingsproblemen bij Pastor Maldonado. Magnussen greep die mogelijkheid met beide handen aan. De Formule Renault 3.5-kampioen van 2013 voelt zich helemaal op zijn gemak bij Renault.

Sky Sports ving van Magnussen op: "Terugkeren in de Formule 1 was absoluut mijn doel. Nu zit ik bij een team met ambities om de titel te winnen. Ik kan me geen betere plek indenken. Natuurlijk heb ik getwijfeld en om me heen gekeken, naar de DTM of LMP1. Ik wilde iets achter de hand hebben, maar gelukkig gaf Renault me een nieuwe kans in de Formule 1 en daar ben ik dankbaar voor."

"De hele ervaring bij McLaren heeft me sterker gemaakt. Het was zwaar om mijn plek binnen dat team kwijt te raken, ik verloor bijna alle hoop. Ik ben niet dom, ik weet hoe moeilijk het is om na zoiets nog terug te keren. Met veel fortuin heb ik een nieuwe kans gekregen. Nu waardeer ik alles veel meer, omdat ik het bijna allemaal kwijt was."

"Ik geloof niet dat de druk minder is, ik ga er alleen beter mee om. Ik geniet meer en schenk minder aandacht aan de negatieve aspecten. De snelheid was er altijd wel en ik heb bij McLaren laten zien dat ik me kan meten met iemand van het kaliber Jenson Button. Dat gaf me veel vertrouwen. Ik ben nu beter op mijn plek, zowel mentaal als qua team."

Hij moet er nog wel voor zorgen dat hij zelf niet een 'overbruggingscoureur' wordt en ze er volgend seizoen een betere rijder in de auto zetten.

Is ook logisch zonder de druk die hij wel had bij McLaren. Als de teambaas zelfs zegt dat dit een overbruggingsjaar wordt voor Renault, dan is alle druk er natuurlijk wel af.

  Renault is blij met Magnussen. Die jongen kan echt wel wat kan echt wel een leuke subtopper worden. Magnussen is niet zomaar een overbruggingscoureur zoals Palmer dat duidelijk wel is.

Hoe Lotus er vorig seizoen bij liep/reed , die chaos met de pitboxen... en nu Renault zo te zien. Ik draag ze in ieder geval een warm hart toe.

  Er zijn maar weinig absolute toppers. Tja charisma, steeds minder coureurs hebben dat helaas. De Montoya's en Irvines van deze wereld verdwijnen rap.
