Podiumplaats Monaco geeft Force India vertrouwen terug

Tot aan de Grand Prix van Monaco verliep het seizoen van Force India uiterst moeizaam. Het team sprokkelde de kruimels op die anderen lieten vallen, op eigen kracht lukte het vaak niet de top tien te halen in de race. Ook de betrouwbaarheid liet met name Nico Hülkenberg wel eens in de steek. De derde plaats van Sergio Perez in Monaco heeft het team echter het vertrouwen terug gegeven.

Vorig jaar was Force India in de tweede seizoenshelft steevast met beide auto's in de top tien te vinden. Aan het einde van vorig seizoen was het zelfs het vierde team in de rangorde qua snelheid. Dit seizoen duurde het tot aan Monaco voordat de eerste dubbele puntenfinish werd behaald. Door de dubbele puntenfinish is Force India geklommen naar de vijfde plaats bij de constructeurs.

Adjunct-teambaas Bob Fernley laat in gesprek met Autosport het volgende weten over de moeizame start van Force India: "Het is in Monaco eindelijk gelukt met beide auto's punten te scoren, een bemoedigend resultaat. In de eerste vier races lukte het ons niet om veel punten te scoren. Onze eerste vier races waren op zijn zachtst gezegd dramatisch: we waren steeds op de verkeerde plaats op het verkeerde moment."

Volgens Fernley richt Force India haar ogen vooral op Toro Rosso. Het zusterteam van Red Bull heeft net als vorig jaar een ijzersterk chassis en scoort in de laatste races structureel punten: "Ik denk dat we met Toro Rosso gaan uitmaken wie de vijfde plaats bij de constructeurs gaat pakken. In Barcelona hebben wij een stap gezet met een update. Dit heeft ons geholpen om weer competitief te worden. De resultaten van Monaco geven ons veel zelfvertrouwen. We blijven de auto continu verbeteren en de komende circuits zouden onze auto goed moeten liggen."

Het pakket dat ze hebben is gewoon prima te noemen.

Leuk team! Hier kan ik echt voor juichen. Voor dit team heb ik enorm veel sympathie.

  Herstel: Williams staat vierde met 66 punten. Dat is alles behalve slecht. (Waarom heb ik toch het idee dat ze het dit jaar zo veel minder doen dan vorig jaar...)

  @Atlaz: omdat williams er een handje van heeft podiumplaatsen weg te gooien met vreemde strategische moves. Twee keer probeerden ze Massa naar de finish te krijgen met een tweestopper (Bahrein en China) waar dat in de slotfase teveel tijd kostte en één keer was Bottas wel vooraan vertegenwoordigd, maar reed ie Hamilton aan. Qua pitstops staan ze ver bovenaan, nou die race prestaties nog.

Ze staan er toch maar elk jaar weer, chapeau.
Ondanks de excentrieke eigenaar levert het team stevig weerwerk, zelfs met een beperkt budget. Hieruit kunnen de topteams best veel leren. Hopelijk kan een team als Haas, en wie weet ooit Manor eenzelfde status als FI veroveren. Alleen maar goed voor de sport...

  Het is zeker heel knap en zeker wat je zegt met beperkt budget,
  maar vergeet niet een zwaluw maakt nog geen zomer en Monaco had veel uitvallers anders staan ze een stukje verder naar achteren,dat zal wel blijken in canada

Uitzondering...net als Haas in Australie

Kimi weg, Max weg en slechte kwalificatie, Rosberg weg, Williams (deden die uberhaubt mee?)...Carlos niet snel genoeg...Kvyat zat in zijn hotelkamer S6 te kijken van GoT
Dit zal niet snel meer voorkomen...werkelijk alles moet meezitten.
