Magnussen start met nieuw chassis vanuit de pits

Voor Renault-coureur Kevin Magnussen was het een korte zaterdag. De Deen crashte in de derde vrije training en miste de kwalificatie. Renault heeft bekend gemaakt dat Magnussen de race met een nieuw chassis vanuit de pitsstraat zal starten.

Magnussen baalt nog steeds van zijn crash en het daardoor niet kunnen rijden van de kwalificatie: "Uiteraard had ik liever de kwalificatie wel gereden, maar er was simpelweg te weinig tijd de boel te repareren. Ik werd verrast door de vochtige omstandigheden en de muren staan hier zo dichtbij dat ieder foutje wordt afgestraft. Ik vind het erg vervelend voor mijn monteurs en zal er alles aan doen om ze in de race te laten juichen."

Alan Permane, directeur operationele zaken van Renault laat het volgende weten inzake de keuze voor een nieuw chassis voor Magnussen: "Kevin maakte een behoorlijke klap mee en dat beschadigde de vleugels, ophanging en bodemplaat. Daarnaast was er ook schade aan de versnellingsbak en het chassis. Kevin zal de race vanuit de pits starten met het reservechassis."
