Perez: "Het voelt als pole position"

Sergio Perez kende een hele goede kwalificatie tijdens de Grand Prix van Europa. Op het nieuwe stratencircuit wist Perez de tweede tijd te noteren. Door zijn crash in VT3 moest zijn versnellingsbak gewisseld worden, dat levert hem een gridstraf van 5 plaatsen op, wat betekent dat Mexicaan de race zal starten vanaf de zevende plaats.

Perez is erg blij met zijn optreden in de kwalificatie. "Het voelt als pole position. Ik moet mijn team bedanken, ze hebben erg hard gewerkt om de auto weer klaar te krijgen zodat we konden kwalificeren. Ik ben natuurlijk nog steeds boos over mijn crash, dat kost mij nu 5 plaatsen, beetje gemengde gevoelens nu. Mijn laatste ronde was wel erg sterk. Ik vond het wel een moeilijke sessie. Er was maar weinig tijd tussen de crash en deze kwalificatie. Dat maakt het lastig om het vertrouwen terug te krijgen. Ik ben blij dat ik het nu terug heb na zo'n goede kwalificatie. Hopelijk kunnen we morgen mooie dingen laten zien, de auto heeft me verbaast over hoe snel hij is, dus er zijn morgen mooie kansen."

Ik was onder de indruk van Perez in zijn Sauber tijd, bij McLaren totaal niet en nu wel weer. Ik denk dat de druk bij McLaren toch wat te vroeg kwam voor hem.
