Nasr met grote glimlach na sterke kwalificatie

Het team van Sauber kent tot dusver een zeer moeizaam seizoen, grotendeels veroorzaakt door de financiële problemen waarin de Zwiterse renstal verkeert. Door het gebrek aan financiële middelen heeft Sauber geen geld om de auto door te ontwikkelen en knokt het met Manor en Renault in de achterhoede. In Baku zorgde Felipe Nasr voor een lichtpuntje door zijn auto in Q2 te krijgen. Nasr start de race als vijftiende.

Nasr moest het tot dusver afleggen tegen teamgenoot Marcus Ericsson. De Zweed kreeg langzamerhand de overhand op zijn Braziliaanse teamgenoot, maar kwam in Baku niet door Q1. Felipe Nasr dus wel en hij is blij met zijn prestatie

"Wat een heerlijke kwalificatie. Ik wil het hele team bedanken, we hebben het echt voor elkaar gekregen vandaag. Ons seizoen verloopt nog niet heel lekker en dan is deze prestatie absoluut welkom. Het team plande mijn runs goed en ik kon op de limiet rijden", aldus Nasr.

In de andere Sauber kende Ericsson een teleurstellende sessie. De Zweed leek zelfs even als laatste te moeten starten, maar verbeterde zich in zijn ultieme poging: "Ik kon geen cleane ronde rijden door de vele gele vlaggen. Ik stond op een gegeven moment zelfs laatste. Mijn laatste rondje was goed genoeg, al raakte ik nog wel even de muur in bocht 8."
