Hülkenberg ziet kwalificatie mislukken na miscommunicatie

Daar waar Sergio Perez een positieve hoofdrol voor zich opeiste door de tweede tijd te rijden in de kwalificatie op het Baku City Circuit, viel Nico Hülkenberg in de tweede Force India zwaar tegen. Door miscommunicatie en een spin viel Hülkenberg uit in Q2, daar waar een plek in de top tien in Baku voor beide Force India's geen probleem zou moeten zijn geweest.

Hülkenberg is zeer teleurgesteld na het mislopen van een plek in de top tien: "De auto doet het hier het hele weekend al goed. Nu starten we als twaalfde en dan wordt het lastig om ver naar voren te komen. Ik maakte zelf een fout door te spinnen bij het opkomen van het rechte stuk. Dat rondje was erg goed en had me eenvoudig in de top tien gebracht."

In zijn laatste poging voor een snelle ronde ging het nog een keer mis voor Hülkenberg. De Duitser dacht nog een rondje te kunnen rijden, maar kwam brandstof en tijd tekort. De Duitser was zeer verbolgen over de miscommunicatie: "Na mijn eigen fout is dit een fout van het team. Ik dacht nog een rondje te kunnen doen, maar dat kon dus niet. Jammer dat het zo door onze vingers is geglipt."
