Beste kwalificatie ooit voor Manor

Blije gezichten bij het Manor Racing, het kleinste team van de Formule 1. Pascal Wehrlein reed zijn MRT05 naar een keurige twaalfde positie, de beste kwalificatie ooit voor de Duitser en voor zijn team. Wijlen Jules Bianchi kwalificeerde zich een keer als veertiende.

Wehrlein zat er in de trainingen al goed bij. In de derde training kwam de DTM kampioen van 2014 al tot een dertiende tijd. Op een gegeven moment stond Wehrlein in de kwalificatie zelfs binnen de top tien. Rio Haryanto wist onder andere Daniil Kvyat en beide Saubers achter zich te houden.

Wehrlein: "Dit is fantastisch. Het gaat het hele weekend al goed, maar we hadden niet gedacht dat dit ons zou lukken in de kwalificatie. Ik reed een geweldig rondje en dat bracht me tot deze startpositie. Uiteraard heb ik heel zin in de race !"
