Sauber zakt door ondergrens in kwalificatie

Voor het door geldzorgen geplaagde Sauber is de kwalificatie voor de Oostenrijkse Grand Prix op een flinke teleurstelling uitgedraaid. Felipe Nasr start de race als laatste, zijn Zweedse teamgenoot Marcus Ericsson deed het met plek 21 niet veel beter. Het team bereikte daarmee een historisch dieptepunt. Nier eerder startten beide Saubers samen vanaf de laatste rij.

Het gebrek aan ontwikkeling van de C35 begint de renstal uit het Zwitserse Hinwil echt op te breken. Het team kon het tot dusver compenseren met de sterke Ferrari-motor, maar het gebrek aan grip speelde Ericcson en Nasr op tijdens de sessie.

Ericsson: "Gisteren zag het er best wel goed uit. We weten dat we moeite hebben om uit Q1 te geraken. Door de kleine verschillen is het hier zo lastig het verschil te maken. Mijn snelste rondje was ook niet geheel foutloos, maar dit resultaat is teleurstellend. De rode vlag hielp ons ook niet."

Felipe Nasr behaalde in Bakoe nog zijn beste seizoensresultaat met een twaalfde plek, maar twee weken later ziet de wereld er heel anders uit voor de Braziliaan: "Een teleurstellend resultaat in wat voor ons toch voelt als een thuisrace. We kregen het niet voor elkaar en de rode vlag kwam op een slecht moment. Toen de sessie werd herstart was er ook nog een gele vlag in de eerste twee sectoren. Waar anderen nog verbeterden konden wij niet sneller."

Met de groeten van mevrouw Kutteborn. Wel grappig trouwens dat van alle klanten Ferrari's de 2015 de snelste was, althans in vrije trainingen, al denk ik dat het in kwali ook wel gelukt was zonder die ploffer en knaller van Sainz en Kvy

Geen verrassing natuurlijk. Maar beterschap is onderweg. Complimenten aan Kaltenborn die het team toch weer door een moeilijke periode heeft weten te leiden na dit twee keer eerder te hebben gedaan. Peter Sauber heeft duidelijk een goede keus gemaakt destijds.
