Max Verstappen schiet kleiduiven voor goed doel

Red Bull Racing-coureurs Max Verstappen en Daniel Ricciardo leenden zich gisteren voor een bijzonder evenement. Samen met andere prominenten uit de Formule 1-wereld namen ze deel aan een wedstrijdje kleiduiven schieten. De opbrengsten gingen naar het goede doel Wings for Life, dat onderzoek doet naar aandoeningen aan het ruggenmerg.

"Ik heb me vermaakt tijdens mijn eerste keer kleiduiven schieten. Maar erg goed was ik niet. Er was één ronde waarin ik het aardig deed, maar verder was het hopeloos", gaf Ricciardo toe aan Verstappen.nl. "Als kind was ik zelfs bang van harde geluiden. Ik kon goed hardlopen, maar verloor altijd op de 100 meter sprint omdat ik met mijn handen over de oren afwachtte tot de rest begon te rennen. Echt waar!"

"Er waren allerlei verschillende mensen uit de sport: coureurs, teammanagers, commentatoren, ex-coureurs, noem maar op. Het was gaaf. Ik geniet er altijd van als verschillende groepen bijeen komen met een reden. Om een goed doel te steunen is altijd geweldig, maar Wings for Life ligt sowieso dicht bij Red Bull. Dwarslaesie is erg ernstig. Je neemt sommige dingen voor lief, dat je kunt opstaan en gaan hardlopen. Dus het is mooi om zoiets te steunen en een positieve invloed te hebben in het zoeken naar een oplossing."

Verstappen vermaakte zich ook en liet weten: "Het was erg leuk om te doen. Ik zou kleiduiven schieten niet met Formule 1 willen vergelijken, maar het vereist wel een goede hand-oog coördinatie en alle F1-coureurs hebben die. Het is erg belangrijk dat we Wings for Life steunen. Het is geweldig dat ze zoveel tijd steken in dit soort evenementen en zodoende zoveel geld bijeen krijgen voor het onderzoek naar dwarslaesie. Het was een geslaagde dag."
