Onberispelijke Mazepin hoopt vertrouwen te verdienen

Voor de tweede dag op rij mocht Nikita Mazepin woensdag plaatsnemen in de auto van Force India. De Russische tiener zette een vierde tijd neer en reed 69 rondjes over Silverstone.

De 17-jarige werkte een aero-programma af voor het Indiase team, waar ook aero-metingen en bandentests onderdeel van uitmaakten. Foutloos rijden is daarbij cruciaal, en Mazepin verbeterde zich bij elke run. "Deze dagen waren extreem nuttig en zonder twijfel de belangrijkste dagen van mijn leven tot nu toe. Mijn doel was om het team zo goed mogelijk te helpen en ik ben tevreden met hoe het is verlopen," liet Mazepin na afloop van de tweede testdag aan F1i weten.

"Ik bleef werken en schaven aan mijn rondetijden, en vond elke run weer plaatsen waar ik me kon verbeteren. Het was een enorm plezierige ervaring en ik kan niet wachten om weer plaats te nemen in de auto." Het hoofddoel van de test van Mazepin was om vertrouwen te verdienen binnen het team, iets wat mogelijk uitmondt in nog meer tijd in de auto. "Het is belangrijk dat het team het gevoel heeft dat het niets uitmaakt of ze jou in de auto zetten, of een van de racecoureurs. Natuurlijk maakt het wel verschil, daar ben ik reeël in, want Sergio (Perez) en Nico (Hulkenberg) zitten al jaren in de auto. Hopelijk kan ik wel laten zien dat ik misschien net zo goed wordt als zij zijn, of misschien wel beter. Het is dus belangrijk dat ik goed werk aflever."

Force India volgt met Mazepin de trend om coureurs op jonge leeftijd aan zich te binden, en de Rus laat zien dat hij over genoeg volwassenheid beschikt voor zijn leeftijd. "Ik denk niet zoveel na over de leeftijd, maar vooral over hoe het werk gedaan moet worden, zodat ik achteraf geen excuses kan verzinnen. Het is niet minder vervelend dat een ouder iemand het beter doet dan jij, want ik wil altijd beter zijn dan de rest. Ik probeer gewoon mijn best te doen en hopelijk ziet het team in mij een betrouwbare rijder."

Ik hoop toch dat we deze coureur nooit in de races terugzien. Maldonado (en Stroll) hebben/hadden in ieder geval nog snelheid, en sloegen (nog) niemand op hun gezicht, maar deze meneer slaat letterlijk en figuurlijk alles

Hij doet het niet best in F3. Hij staat momenteel 20e .. zijn teamgenoten staan 4e en 6e. 1 race uitgesloten worden helpt natuurlijk niet maar dan nog doet hij het super slecht!

Ook al heeft hij losse handjes en is het grootste verschil met Carmen Jorda zijn uiterlijk, dit heeft hij niet slecht gedaan, zowel qua testwerk als zijn commentaar erov.
