Alonso: "Ik wil alles winnen waaraan ik meedoe"

Fernando Alonso wil McLaren graag terugbrengen naar de top van de Formule 1. De Spanjaard heeft daar veel voor over, en laat daarom de zomervakantie schieten.

Sinds zijn terugkomst bij McLaren heeft Alonso nog niet op het podium gestaan. Dat frustreert hem mateloos, want winnen zit hem in het bloed. "Ik wil alles winnen waaraan ik meedoe. Ik tel de dagen af naar de volgende race, want dat is de volgende kans. Natuurlijk zijn er frustraties, maar ik zit er bovenop om iedereen scherp te houden en ze niet teveel vakantie te laten nemen, want ik doe zelf niet aan vakantie," vertelde Alonso aan Sky Sports.

Alonso's manager Flavio Briatore gaf onlangs toe dat de overstap van de Spanjaard naar McLaren zijn 'fout' was. Alonso vindt dat echter uit de lucht gegrepen en begrijpt de opmerking niet. "Ik weet niet waarom hij dat gezegd heeft. Hij heeft mij overtuigd dat ik me moest verbinden aan dit project. Ongetwijfeld baalt Flavio van de prestaties van het team nadat ze hem overtuigd hadden van het project. Hopelijk kunnen we hem volgend jaar weer blij maken."

Toch heeft Alonso geen spijt van de keuzes in zijn carrière. Wel heeft hij spijt van iets anders: het niet kunnen winnen van een derde wereldtitel. Alonso's laatste titel dateert alweer van een decennium geleden. "Daar kan ik geen genoegen mee nemen." Die frustratie is te begrijpen, nadat hij driemaal heel dichtbij de titel was, maar telkens misgreep.

Toch ziet Alonso zichzelf als een gezegend man en weet hij zijn drie gemiste kansen in perspectief te zien. "Ik ben gelukkig dat ik twee wereldtitels gepakt heb, terwijl andere talenten nooit de kans kregen. In Oostenrijk sprak ik met Nico Hulkenberg, die vanaf de tweede startplaats zijn eerste podium wilde behalen. Hij is heel getalenteerd, dus ik kan niet boos zijn als ik dit niet win of dat niet bereik."

Ben bang dat Alonso het zelfde gaat overkomen als Schumacher na zijn comeback. in zijn Ferrari tijd twijfelde niemand aan de talenten van Schumacher. Na zijn comeback bij Mercedes waren toch veel mensen die hem slecht vonden, te oud, geen motivatie etc etc. Helaas is de laatste Schumacher de Schumacher wat sommige mensen blijven herinneren.

Als Alonso zo doorgaat, loopt hij ook het risico dit te overkomen. Hij was in zijn tijd bij Renault onverslaanbaar. Bij Ferrari dingen laten zien die de auto eigenlijk niet zou moeten kunnen. Maar de laatste tijd vind ik ook dat hij niet veel meer laat zien en dat is een einde die een groot coureur als Alonso niet verdiend.
