Palmer: "'Lelijke' Halo druist tegen Formule 1-traditie in"

Renault-coureur Jolyon Palmer zou 'erg blij' zijn als de Halo geschrapt wordt voor volgend seizoen. Die uitspraak doet de Brit, nadat Sebastian Vettel niet echt positief was over de cockpitbescherming na zijn test tijdens de eerste vrije training in Groot-Brittannië.

Vettel is zelf een groot voorstander van de Halo, maar na zijn test op Silverstone gaf de Ferrari-coureur toe dat er een aantal tekortkomingen zitten aan het ontwerp. Zijn bevindingen zullen hoogstwaarschijnlijk meegenomen worden in het oordeel van de FIA of de Halo volgend jaar al ingevoerd moet worden.

Palmer gaf eerder dit jaar al aan dat hij geen voorstander is van de Halo en daar staat de Brit nog steeds achter. Volgens hem gaat de essentie van de Formule 1 verloren als de open cockpit zo wordt afgesloten, en dus zou hij blij zijn als de cockpitbescherming wordt verworpen, zo laat hij weten aan Crash.net "Ik zou er erg blij mee zijn. Ik denk dat het erg lelijk is en het gaat tegen de traditie van de Formule 1 in. Ik hou van de open cockpits en ik denk dat het zo ook veilig genoeg is; als ik bang zou zijn, zou ik ook niet rijden!"

Hoewel de Halo de veiligheid zou moeten bevorderen, kleven er ook nadelen aan volgens Palmer. "Je komt niet meer makkelijk de auto uit en de Halo is al aangepast met een tweede versie. Het is duidelijk dat er het niet ideaal werkt. Op het moment is het beter en traditioneler om een open cockpit te hebben, en de auto's zien er dan een ook een stuk beter uit."

Ik kan mij haast niet voorstellen dat Vettel een voorstander is van dit systeem maar ja hij zit er dichter op om daar beter over te oordelen.

  Zou ik ook zeggen als ik 1 van de beste coureurs was. Meteen vanaf het begin zeggen dat je voor bent, zodat ze jou als testcase nemen, om daarna aan te geven dat het ontwerp niet werk...slim toch! ;-)

VES, Palmer, Hamilton, Vettel, Hulkenberg, Horner, Force India, Ricc, Lauda...hebben zich al tegen de Halo uitgesproken...
Waarschijnlijk Rosberg, Alonso en hun vriendje WUrz zijn openlijk voorstander...
De FIA heeft een bredere agenda dan de F1 betreft veiligheid, de F1 moet voor zichzelf opkomen als niet die achterlijk HALO wilt.....
De GDPA is een farce....

  Ik bedoel de GPDA is een farce...Rosberg en Wurz hebben het erdoorheen gedrukt om te zeggen dat ze er unaniem achter de Halo staan...geloof ik niets van....Wurz wil waarschijnlijk in positief daglicht komen bij Todt....all politics.

  Lees: Todt is een groot voorstander...en met zijn Fer connecties praat Vettel hem na....waarom is het met name FER dat de Halo test?? of iig als eerste? Vettel moet wel heel erg sterk in zijn schoenen staan om het tegen te spreken, en dat doet hij nu door te zeggen dat meer testen nodig is..maar ik ben met je eens dat Vettel niet in het rijtje van tegenstanders thuis hoort....
