Magnussen: "Alleen in races met vreemd verloop kunnen we punten scoren"

Waar de voorganger van Renault, Lotus, vorig jaar nog keurig zesde werd bij de constructeurs vallen de prestaties van het nieuwe Renault fabrieksteam nog zwaar tegen. De motor is sterk verbeterd ten opzichte van vorig jaar, maar het matige chassis heeft dit jaar nog maar zes punten opgeleverd. Kevin Magnussen laat weten dat punten op eigen kracht er op dit moment niet inzit voor de Franse renstal.

Renault staat in het kampioenschap wel voor Manor en Sauber, maar is qua snelheid nauwelijks sneller dan genoemde renstallen. Magnussen over de kansen van Renault: "We geven iedere race alles om een goed resultaat te behalen. Als we de kans krijgen, bijvoorbeeld door slecht weer of een Safety Car, moeten we er staan. Onze auto is op dit moment niet goed genoeg om onder normale omstandigheden in de punten te eindigen.

Renault heeft net als Williams, Manor en Force India laten weten de aandacht richting 2017 te gaan verschuiven.
