Derde plek in kampioenschap mogelijk volgens Verstappen

Teamgenoot Daniel Ricciardo en de Ferrari-coureurs achterhalen. Dat is volgens Max Verstappen een realistisch doel in het restant van het seizoen, waardoor hij het kampioenschap als derde zou kunnen afsluiten.

Sinds Verstappen in Barcelona voor het eerst in de Red Bull stapte, pakte de 18-jarige na Lewis Hamilton de meeste punten. Daardoor is de voormalig Toro Rosso-coureur opgeklommen naar de zesde plaats in het kampioenschap, maar het verschil met de derde plek van Kimi Raikkonen is slechts zestien punten. Verstappen denkt daardoor dat die derde plaats een realistisch doel is, zo liet hij blijken bij de persconferentie.

"We zitten er behoorlijk dicht bij, maar aan het eind van het seizoen zullen we zien waar we staan. Het zal ergens tussen de derde en zesde plek worden. Je probeert elke race het maximale uit jezelf te halen, dus we zien wel waar we na Abu Dhabi staan."
