GP3-titel enige doel van Leclerc om volgend jaar Formule 1 te kunnen rijden

Charles Leclerc werkte vanmorgen op de Hungaroring zijn tweede vrije training in de Formule 1 af voor het Haas F1-team. De talentvolle coureur uit Monaco, onderdeel van het opleidingsprogramma van Ferrari, kende net als twee weken geleden op Silverstone een geslaagde sessie. Ook volgende week in Hockenheim zit Leclerc in de auto van Haas tijdens de eerste vrije training.

Ferrari lijkt er alles aan te doen om Leclerc voor te bereiden op een Formule 1-debuut in 2017. Het enige struikelblok voorlopig lijkt het gebrek aan een superlicentie te zijn. Om het 'rijbewijs' van de Formule 1 te kunnen behalen moet Leclerc de titel in de GP3 pakken dit jaar. De strengere eisen aan het behalen van een superlicentie zijn mede geïntroduceerd om te voorkomen dat coureurs te gemakkelijk in de Formule 1 kunnen debuteren.

Leclerc laat vanuit Hongarije weten over zijn doelstelling om volgend jaar onderdeel te zijn van de Formule 1-grid: "Ondanks dat ik nog erg jong ben voel ik mij klaar voor de Formule 1. Het voelt al bijna als vertrouwt om een Formule 1-auto te mogen besturen. Om volgend seizoen Formule 1 Grand Prix te kunnen rijden moet ik dit jaar kampioen worden in de GP3. Ik sta nu bovenaan in het kampioenschap, maar mijn teamgenoot staat erg dichtbij. Het voelt wel een beetje als druk om de titel te moeten halen, maar onder druk weet ik er altijd het maximale uit te halen."

Ocon had vorig jaar die titel, rijd ook nog geen F1.
Dus geen garantie Charles....
