Perez: "Hockenheim laat me terugdenken aan begin van carrière"

Sergio Perez is een Mexicaan, maar toch roept de Hockenheimring bijzondere gevoelens bij hem op. De Force India-coureur kijkt uit naar de race in Duitsland, het land dat hij twee jaar zijn thuis heeft mogen noemen.

"Elke keer als ik naar Hockenheim ga, roept dat herinneringen op van het begin van mijn carrière. Ik heb twee jaar in Duitsland gewoond toen ik vijftien was en Formule BMW reed, en ik heb hier nog steeds goede vrienden wonen. Het is ook leuk om de Duitse fans te ontmoeten. Ze weten veel over autosport en geven veel support. Hoewel ik dus in Duitsland gewoon heb, kan ik mezelf alleen voorstellen en bedankt zeggen in het Duits!"

Perez is ook een liefhebber van het circuit in Duitsland. "Het is een interessante baan die altijd verrassingen oplevert en door de goede inhaalmogelijkheid bij bocht zes levert het goede strijd op. Ik heb nooit het oude Hockenheim gezien of er gereden, maar het nieuwe circuit is prima. Het is vaak warm en de laatste keer dat we hier reden was de baantemperatuur 55 graden Celsius. De hitte kan een factor zijn, zeker voor het bandenmanagement."
