Williams rust Felipe Massa uit met ander chassis

Williams-coureur Felipe Massa rijdt dit weekend in België met een ander chassis dan in Duitsland. Op de Hockenheimring moest hij de strijd na 36 ronden staken omdat zijn auto onbestuurbaar was als gevolg van een aanrijding door Renault-collega Jolyon Palmer in de eerste ronde. Voor Spa grijpt Williams met Massa terug op het chassis dat hij tot en met Oostenrijk gebruikte.

"We hebben wel wat ideeën over wat de problemen in Duitsland waren", begint de Braziliaan tegenover Autosport. "We veranderen het chassis omdat het heel gek aanvoelde na de tik die ik in de openingsronde van de race had gehad. Voor België hebben we een ander chassis en ik weet zeker dat het nu geen probleem meer zal vormen."

Wat wel een probleem vormt, is de toegenomen concurrentie van teams als Force India, McLaren en Scuderia Toro Rosso. Massa: "We krijgen het nog zwaar. Force India is een team dat gedurende het seizoen altijd groeit en ze hebben twee goede coureurs. Voor McLaren geldt eigenlijk hetzelfde, ze ontwikkelen zich continu. En vlak Toro Rosso niet uit."

"Het is duidelijk dat we de lijn van de voorgaande jaren niet door hebben kunnen trekken. We hadden verwacht weer in de top drie mee te draaien, maar Red Bull Racing heeft enorme progressie geboekt en Ferrari is nog steeds sterk. We vechten niet om een aanval te doen op de derde plek, maar om onze vierde positie te verdedigen."

Felipe kan zondag maar beter genieten van de race, want het wordt zijn laatste optreden in de F1 hier en misschien zelfs wel de allerlaatste keer dat hij hier überhaupt rijdt.
