Horner geeft Ricciardo en Verstappen vrijheid om te racen

Het team van Red Bull Racing kende gisteren een sterke openingsdag op Spa-Francorchamps. Op het door coureurs geliefde circuit reed Max Verstappen de snelste tijd, met teamgenoot Daniel Ricciardo drie tienden achter zich. Door de motorwissel van Lewis Hamilton en de sterke vorm op vrijdag kan Red Bull een rol gaan spelen in de strijd om de overwinning. Teambaas Christian Horner liet gisteren tijdens de persconferentie weten dat zijn coureurs vrij zijn om tegen elkaar te racen.

"Als we een situatie komen waar Daniel Ricciardo de race leidt, mag Max Verstappen een poging doen om de leiding over te nemen. Hij hoeft niet braaf achter zijn teamgenoot aan te rijden, onze coureurs hebben de vrijheid om met elkaar te vechten om een positie."

"Een situatie zoals in Duitsland waar Max halverwege de race Daniel moest laten gaan was een tactische keuze. Uiteraard spreken we als team wel de mogelijke scenario's door als de strijd intens wordt. Onze coureurs weten wat ze moeten doen", luidt de reactie van Horner vanuit België

    Laten we hopen dat ze dan strijden om de overwinning en niet om p6 of zo.

    Kan hij inderdaad nu makkelijk beslissen... of je nu 3e of 4e wordt en wie dat is is niet bijster interessant. Als het volgend jaar om plaats 1 of 2 gaat wil ik hem graag nog eens horen.

      Ligt er toch ook weer aan hoe ver de concurrentie erachter staat. Als je met beide rijders genoeg voorsprong hebt, wat kan bij RBR, hoeft hij zich ook nergens druk om te maken. Zolang geen van beiden maar geen Rosbergje doen.

      Multi21. Kijk anders de GP van Turkije 2010(?) terug, het "Rosbergje" kennen ze bij RBR maar al te goed.

    Ben benieuwd of ze in de wedstrijd inderdaad dicht bij elkaar zitten en of ze zoals er nu naar uit ziet om het podium kunnen strijden.

    Als ze op plaats 1 en 2 rijden oke, maar als de Ferrari's tussen Max en Ric in rijden dan zal het wel plan B worden.
    Maar laten we vandaag eerst maar eens afwachten hoe de startopstelling zal zijn, ben wel erg benieuwd.

    Half Nederland staat achter Max.
    Als de situatie zo is, dat er om de eerste plaats gestreden wordt, dan zal RBR de kaart op Max zetten.

      Wat heeft het ermee van doen dat half Nederland achter Max staat? Ik zal je een geheim vertellen, er zijn meerdere landen die F1 volgen en daarvan zal een fractie uit Nederland komen.

      Ik geloof dat ook wel. Trouwe fans zijn ook wat waard. Het feit dat er geen teamorders komen zegt ook wel wat, de kaarten worden niet op 1 rijder gezet. De achterstand schijnt groot te zijn van Ferrari dus wie weet hoe dat afloopt.

      @Verstoppen voor Max zelf misschien (al denk ik van niet), Horner loopt al wat jaren mee en kent de klappen van de zweep. Daar zal een tig duizend supporters op 1 circuit (van de bele)geen invloed hebben.

    Mercedes en Ferrari rijden met nieuwe motoren dus die hebben gisteren de boel rustig ingereden. We zullen vandaag pas zien waar Red Bull staat. Ik verwacht dat ze op dit circuit achter de Ferrari's staan.
