Force India met twee auto's in top tien kwalificatie

Waar het team van Force India in de trainingen nog worstelde met de balans, lukte het coureurs Sergio Perez en Nico Hülkenberg in de kwalificatie wel om het goede rondje te rijden. Perez start de race als achtste achter Max Verstappen, terwijl Nico Hülkenberg een negende tijd realiseerde.

Sergio Perez bevestigde na de kwalificatie ook dat hij in 2017 de kleuren van Force India verdedigd. De Mexicaan laat het volgende optekenen over zijn kwalificatie: "We kunnen tevreden zijn met het resultaat. We hebben hebben het lastig hier, maar we hebben goed samengewerkt en de auto verbeterd. Het lijkt erop dat onze rivalen erg snel zijn, maar wij hebben in de kwalificatie het maximale eruit gehaald. Het was een spannende sessie en ik had een mooi gevecht met mijn teamgenoot. Voor de race zitten we qua banden niet heel ruim, de eerste stint op de superzachte band word bepalend voor de rest van de strategie."

Nico Hülkenberg start een plekje achter zijn teamgenoot en is een tevreden man: "Ik ben blij met mijn negende plaats op de grid. Op een of andere manier lukte het ons niet de juiste balans te vinden. Het is dus een goed resultaat om beide auto's in de top tien te hebben. We hebben veel dingen geprobeerd aangaande de afstellingen en hebben kleine verbeteringen gemaakt. Ik ben nog niet helemaal gelukkig met de balans. In de race zal alles draaien om de banden. De verschillen zijn zo klein dat je scherp moet zijn in het maken van de juiste keuzes."
