Magnussen rijdt in Singapore met motor uit gecrashte auto Spa-Francorchamps

Kevin Magnussen maakte tijdens de Grand Prix van België een zwaar ongeluk mee bij het uitkomen van Eau Rouge. De Deen verloor de auto al bij het naar boven rijden en probeerde dat tevergeefs te corrigeren. Gevolg was een zware crash, waarbij het chassis total loss raakte. Renault heeft laten weten dat de motor nog bruikbaar is en dat deze weer in de auto van Magnussen kan worden gemonteerd.

In Italië reed Magnussen met een reserverchassis. Renault laat het volgende weten over de motor van Magnussen: "Naar alle waarschijnlijkheid zal Kevin Magnussen de motor gebruiken in de vrije trainingen in Singapore. Het lijkt erop dat de motor geen schade heeft opgelopen na de zware crash op Spa-Franchorchamps."

Renault kent een lastig jaar en snakt naar het einde van het seizoen. Een van de weinige hoogtepunten van het team zijn de betrouwbaarheid en prestaties van de motor, zo erkent ook technisch directeur Bob Bell: "Onze motor is echt niet zo slecht. Ik denk dat het zelfs een behoorlijk krachtige motor is. Daarnaast hebben we het geluk dat de motor uiterst betrouwbaar is, de mensen in Viry hebben goed werk geleverd."

    Wat ik helemaal knap van renault vind, is dat ze nieuwe motoren aan Red Bull geven en niet gebruiken voor hun eigen team.

      Misschien iets beter lezen, zal alleen worden gebruikt voor de vrijdag trainingen. Voor zaterdag wordt er dan weer een andere motor ingezet, en denk dat dat de nieuwe motor zal zijn.

      Ik weet niet zeker of dat zo is. Maar een verklaring kan zijn dat ze dit seizoen voornamelijk gebruiken als een leerjaar. Als ze de motor constant houden, hebben ze beter vergelijkingsmateriaal voor wat betreft de aero-aanpassingen. Zo leren ze meer wat beter werkt en wat minder. Ik hoop dat ze hier hun voordeel mee doen, want ze hebben nog een hoop achterstand m.b.t. aerokennis.

      Uit welk deel van dit bericht kan je dit opmaken? Ja de Red Bull is veel sneller dan de Renaut, maar de oorzaak daarvan ligt niet zo zeer in de afstelling van beide auto's maar in het totale chassis. Ik durf te stellen dat zelfs wanneer ik de Red Bull afstel en Adrian Newey de Renault dat de Red Bull nog steeds sneller is.

    Ik ga ervan uit dat de motoren geborgd zijn. Ben dan wel heel benieuwd hoe ze kunnen zien dat motor intern geen schade heeft, je kunt het een en ander aflezen/meten aan de motorolie en koelvloeistof. Toch ben ik benieuwd. Gebruiken ze de fp als test of zijn er andere manieren, iemand enig idee?

      Ze zullen een volledig boroscoop onderzoek hebben uitgevoerd en daarmee volledig hebben kunnen zien dat er geen afwijkingen aan de zuigers, kamers etc zijn. Daarnaast mogen ze bepaalde dingen er afhalen zolang ze geen zegels verbreken
