Kevin Magnussen zonder drinkwater naar punt

Kevin Magnussen bezorgde zijn team Renault in Singapore weer eens een puntje. De vorige keer dat de Franse renstal in de punten finishte, dateerde uit begin mei, in de Russische Grand Prix. Het werd wel weer eens een keer tijd voor Renault dus. En Magnussen moest er heel diep voor gaan. De Deen onthulde in gesprek met Autosport dat hij tijdens de race geen drinkwater had.

Magnussen: "Fysiek was het ontzettend zwaar. Ik had geen drinkwater, dat maakte het extra moeilijk. Ik weet niet wat het probleem was. Ik ben er niet zeker van of er nou een probleem met de drinkfles was of dat er geen water in zat, maar het team is me nu wel een drankje verschuldigd. Ik moest het uit mijn hoofd zetten en doorgaan met de wedstrijd."

"Mijn start was prima. Ik kwam goed weg en profiteerde van de crash van Nico Hülkenberg. Daarna was ik in staat om de banden goed te managen. De strategie vormde de sleutel voor dit resultaat. Het team merkte dat ik zuinig met de banden kon omspringen en besloot om een twee-stopper met ultrazacht, superzacht en superzacht te hanteren."

"Dat zou eigenlijk onmogelijk moeten zijn, maar we hebben het voor elkaar gekregen. De balans van de auto was goed en met een beetje meer topsnelheid hadden we misschien nog voor een Toro Rosso en een Force India kunnen eindigen. Maar toch, ik ben hier heel blij mee. Het team heeft uitstekend werk geleverd dit weekend en verdiende deze beloning."

Volgens mij heeft Hulkenberg ook zijn hele race uitgereden zonder water. ;-)

En dat in zo ongeveer de slechtste race om zonder water te zitten. Het is superwarm en je kunt geen moment je concentratie verliezen, anders sta je in de muur. Heel erg knap!

  Heb wel ooit eens gelezen dat na 10 minuten racen die drinkfles goed is om thee in te maken, dus misschien is het ook niet zo'n groot verschil met de andere rijders.

  Hij heeft af en toe hele goede races, maar wisselt deze af met anonieme races waarin zelfs Palmer iets beter is. Te wisselvallig gewoon, wat bij McLaren ook al zo was.
