Briatore: "Max Verstappen echt een fenomeen"

Oud-teambaas Flavio Briatore heeft zich op de Italiaanse tv positief uitgelaten over Max Verstappen. De Red Bull Racing-coureur doet hem denken aan Fernando Alonso toen hij de Spanjaard onder zijn hoede had. Alonso veroverde met Renault twee maal de wereldtitel.

Briatore was op dat moment teambaas van de Franse renstal. De Italiaan zegt nu: "Verstappen is echt een fenomeen, een groot talent. Hij doet me denken aan Alonso toen ik hem in zijn jonge jaren begeleidde." Briatore volgt de Formule 1 nog altijd op de voet.

Over de titelstrijd tussen Mercedes-rijders Nico Rosberg en Lewis Hamilton liet hij weten: " Het lijkt erop dat Rosberg zijn hoofd erbij heeft en Hamilton speelt een beetje voor dj. Lewis kan winnen, maar dan moet hij wel minder bezig zijn met muziek."

In een eerder stadium vertelde Briatore in Auto Bild over Verstappen: "Hij herinnert me aan de jonge Michael Schumacher en Fernando Alonso. Verstappen brengt nieuwe energie in de Formule 1 en dat kon de sport wel gebruiken. Het is stom om hem te bekritiseren voor zijn spectaculaire rijstijl."

    Ik kan mij nog een interview herinneren dat er aan Flavio het volgende werd gevraagd : Vandaag rijdt Jos zijn 100-ste GO. Wat vindt je daarvan? Waarop Flavio antwoorde : 100? Ik dacht dat het er al veel meer waren. Flavio had Jos volgens mij best hoog zitten
