Sainz Jr. in de wolken met plekje in top tien kwalificatie, Kvyat tevreden

Voor Toro Rosso-coureurs heeft de kwalificatie voor de Amerikaanse Grand Prix op positieve wijze afgesloten. Carlos Sainz Jr. reed een sterke ronde in Q2 wat hem een plekje in de top bezorgde voor de Grand Prix. Daniil Kvyat was iets minder snel, maar kan met een dertiende plek niet ontevreden zijn.

De prestatie van Carlos Sainz Jr. is opmerkelijk, gezien het feit dat Toro Rosso met de zwakste motor van het veld rijdt en motorvermogen belangrijk is op de rechte stukken. De Spanjaard kan zijn geluk niet op met een plek in de top tien:

"Ik ben ongelofelijk blij met deze prestatie.Na een moeilijke laatste training waar ik maar liefst twee keer een lekke band had, lukte het me een hele goede ronde te rijden in het tweede deel van de kwalificatie. Ik was heel erg blij toen mijn engineer mijn positie doorgaf. Dit hadden we nodig na een paar moeilijke races. In de race zal het niet eenvoudig worden, maar ik ga alles geven om punten te scoren", aldus de blije Carlos Sainz Jr.

Voor Daniil Kvyat was het ook een goede dag. De Rus kreeg gisteren te horen dat hij ook in 2017 in de Formule 1 rijdt bij Scuderia Toro Rosso. Kvyat over zijn kwalificatie: "Het was geen slechte kwalificatie. De auto was lastig te besturen, de balans was niet helemaal goed. Ondanks dat was het geen slechte ronde, we kwamen minder dan een tiende tekort voor een plekje in de top tien. Een voordeel is wel dat we kunnen kiezen op welke banden we mogen starten. Er kunnen bovendien veel dingen gebeuren in de race en het middenveld zit dicht bij elkaar. We gaan ons best doen een paar punten te scoren."

Prima Q van sainz, ik hoop voor hem dat hij volgend jaar vooraan in het middenveld kan rijden.

Ik durf wel te beweren dat Sainz hier net zo goed heeft gekwalificeerd als Max gezien het verschil in PK's. Misschien wel beter, omdat hij zijn teammaat heeft verslagen. Ja Carlos komt los!

  Sainz kan zeker een goede hotlap rijden, enige wat nog ontbreekt is constantheid in de races. Benieuwd naar wat Kvyat in de race zal laten zien.

Ik mot niks van Carlos hebben als hij weer van alles roept in de media. Maar dit zie ik graag, echt super goed gedaan van hem. Liever met daden spreken dan jezelf zo etaleren ten nadele van anderen.

  Helemaal mee eens. had ook niet verwacht dat kvyat er zo ver achter zou zitten. Dus het zegt wel wat, voor deze quali. Nu maar hopen op een goeie race.

  Het verschil in de snelste ronde tussen SAI (Q3) en KVY (Q2) is minder dan 2 tienden, minder als het verschil tussen de Q3 tijden van HAM en ROS of RIC en VES.

We weten allemaal al dat Carlos erg goed is over één ronde. Ik weet alleen vrij zeker dat hij er in de race zelf weinig van gaat bakken! :-)

  hoewel het fijn voor carlos is dat hij 10e is staat hij dus wel op de verkeerde banden nu.
  ik voorspel dat hij achter kvyat gaat eindigen want met die motor is starten op ss geen voor maar een nadeel.

Ohhh wat is die motor slecht ,als het zo uitkomt.... Bewijst alleen maar dat hij uit zn nek lult en zoals eigenlijk iedereen al jaren weet, de STR elk seizoen weer een goede tot redelijke auto is... Jammer dat Sainz niet kan racen anders zou hij ook is een keertje op P4 eindigen met zo,n goede auto....
