Ecclestone steunt Max: "Hij weet wat hij wil"

Bernie Ecclestone is een fan van Max Verstappen. De jonge Nederlander gooit sinds zijn overstap naar Red Bull Racing met enige regelmaat de spreekwoordelijke knuppel in het hoenderhok der Formule 1. Verstappen schuwt de confrontatie op de baan niet en dat is hetgeen dat Ecclestone zo bevalt aan hem. De commerciële baas van de sport is ook gecharmeerd van Lewis Hamilton.

Op de vraag van Formula1.com waarom dat zo is, antwoordde Ecclestone: "Lewis is een beetje speciaal, als persoon en als coureur. Hij doet het geweldig. We kunnen wel een half dozijn Hamiltons gebruiken. En Max is iemand die heel goed weet wat hij wil, hij wil winnen. Hij koppelt dat aan de kwaliteit en het talent om dat ook te doen. Hij racet, dat is precies wat van hem verlangd wordt. Formule 1-coureurs behoren elkaar te bekampen."

De officiële Formule 1-site vroeg Ecclestone ook of hij denkt dat Sebastian Vettel het in zich heeft om Ferrari terug naar de top te brengen. "Nee. Toen ik Ferrari in de jaren negentig voorstelde om Jean Todt te benoemen tot teambaas, waren ze een beetje huiverig om een buitenlander in een Italiaanse organisatie. Op dit moment is het weer echt een Italiaans team, geleid op een Italiaanse wijze. Maurizio Arrivabene is niet te benijden. Ik zou zijn werk niet willen doen."

    Zo is het. Coureurs moeten elkaar bekampen, Als in de Romeinse tijd de gladiatoren elkaar bekamt hadden met opmerkingen als: "je mag wel slaan maar je mij geen pijn doen"dan was er geen sterveling meer komen kijken naar de slappe hap.

    Ik ben geen fan van Bernie, mij iets teveel bezig met het vullen van zijn zakken, maar dit ziet-ie dan toch wel weer goed.
    Strijd is wat een race leuk maakt en Max wil die strijd ook zeker leveren.
    Er rijden er toch ook een paar rond die al tamelijk snel genoegen nemen met hun positie. Die niet serieus durven aanvallen of verdedigen.

      Normaal wordt elke quote van BE (en het maakt niet eens uit wat) op dit forum onderuit gehaald. Bernie heeft de sport wel zo groot en commercieel en bereikbaar gemaakt voor ons.
      En ik geloof dat hij een goeie is (mede gezien zijn ervaring in de sport zelf)
      Hier worden voornamelijk negatief zaken aangehaald en de goede achterwege gelaten. (Als baas moet je keuzes maken, deze hoeven lang niet altijd populair te zijn..want hij draagt de uiteindelijke verantwoordelijkheid en wij niet, gelukkig ;-).
