Waar is Red Bull Racing in Brazilië toe in staat?

Het Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Sao Paulo is komend weekend de locatie voor de twintigste race van het Formule 1-seizoen 2016, de Grand Prix van Brazilië. De vraag is of dat circuit, beter bekend als Interlagos, het team van Red Bull Racing een beetje ligt. Zelf denkt de Oostenrijkse renstal dat concurrent Ferrari in Brazilië beter uit de verf zal komen en oud-coureur David Coulthard sluit zich daarbij aan.

"Omdat Red Bull Racing wat motorvermogen mist en dat belangrijk is voor het laatste stuk heuvel op", legt de Schot uit aan Redbull.com. De eerste sector is meer geschikt voor Mercedes. Red Bull Racing moet het hebben van de middelste sector. Oud-coureur Jan Lammers ziet wel kansen voor het team van Max Verstappen en Daniel Ricciardo. "Ik denk dat Red Bull het gebrek aan vermogen kan compenseren, omdat hun auto sterk uit de laatste bochten komt. Het ziet er dus goed uit."

Coulthard over Interlagos: "Omdat het zo'n kort rondje is, zijn de onderlinge verschillen klein. Je mag in geen enkele bocht traag zijn of tijd laten liggen. Dat kun je natuurlijk over elk circuit zeggen, maar op veel banen bepaalt de auto hoe je rijdt en heb je als coureur minder invloed. In Brazilië kun je als coureur meer spelen met verschillende lijnen in bochten. Door er wat eerder in te duiken, of misschien juist wat trager zodat je er sneller uit komt."

Lammers reed in 1979 en 1980 zelf op het circuit van Sao Paulo. "Een fout tikt snel aan. Een tiende telt op Interlagos meer dan op een lang circuit als Spa-Francorchamps. Tot de voorlaatste bochten kan alles heel goed gaan, maar dan kom je bij de laatste twee of drie bochten en wordt alles anders, want die zijn cruciaal met het oog op de klim naar het rechte stuk van start en finish die volgt."

Leuk dit allemaal, maar als het gaat regenen, zoals Williams het verwacht, dan is RBR "the team to beat". Maar ook zonder regen verwacht ik de RBR hier goed voor de dag zal komen.

  Die gast kan echt niet in de regen rijden en dat zou hem voor het WK wel eens veel pijn kunnen gaan doen. Maar goed eerst maar eens zien die regen.

  Bijna elk circuit inderdaad en zeker in Brazilië en Abu Dabi. Bochten zijn te langzaam voor Red Bull en de topsnelheid te hoog.

  Inderdaad. Zoals Lewis in 2007 zeventien punten en zijn titel verspeelde in de laatste twee races. In de ene laatste GP kwam hij onder natte omstandigheden was te zitten in het zand of grind.

Je merkt dat de meesten stiekem hopen op regen.
Maar ik denk dat het weer meer bij dreiging dan bij bakken regen tijdens de race gaat blijven.
En daar gaan we dan met onze anti- Rosberg en pro Red Bull prognoses....
