VT2: Hamilton snelste in tweede vrije training Brazilië, Verstappen zesde

Lewis Hamilton heeft de vrijdag in Brazilië als snelste afgesloten. De Brit was tijdens de tweede oefensessie de snelste en bleef teamgenoot Nico Rosberg en de verrassende Valtteri Bottas te snel af. Max Verstappen noteerde de zesde tijd.

Zoals gebruikelijk in de tweede vrije trainingen werden de snelste tijden in het eerste deel van de sessie gereden. Dat deed Hamilton het beste, maar de Williamsen vielen op met hun snelheid over een vliegende ronde. Bottas reed de derde tijd, terwijl Felipe Massa zijn laatste Formule 1-vrijdag in Brazilië als vierde afsloot. De Red Bulls van Daniel Ricciardo en Verstappen werden terugverwezen naar de vijfde en zesde plaats, voor de Ferrari's van Sebastian Vettel en Kimi Raikkonen.

Raikkonen speelde ook een van de hoofdrollen in een opmerkelijk incident. De Fin haalde vlak voor de ingang van de pits Carlos Sainz buitenom in en besloot toen meteen de pitstraat te bezoeken. Het was voor de stewards reden genoeg om het incident na de sessie eens nader onder de loep te nemen.

Het was niet de sessie van McLaren. Fernando Alonso werd gevraagd om de auto in bocht drie langs de kant te zitten en dat zorgde weer voor mooie beelden. De Spanjaard kon de paddock niet bereiken vanaf die plaats en moest het grootste deel van de training staand aan de vangrails doorbrengen. Om zichzelf te vermaken ging Alonso maar met een steentje hooghouden en kreeg hij een stoeltje van een cameraman. Ook teamgenoot Jenson Button had problemen en kwam daardoor maar weinig in actie.

Halve seconde langzamer op race pace. Moet morgen en zondag iets speciaals gebeuren. Droog weer op zondag (ziet het er niet naar uit nu): 1 en 2 voor Mercedes...

Max maakte een remfout bij het ingaan van bocht 1 en had flink overstuur bij het uitgaan van de Senna S in zijn snelste rondje.

  Ze gingen in VT2 minder snel dan in VT1, dus zoveel zegt een snel rondje ook niet.
  Ik verwacht ook niet dat Williams ineens meedoet om de podium plekken.
