Pascal Wehrlein: "We geven de strijd pas op als de vlag is gevallen in Abu Dhabi"

Door een negende plaats van Sauber-coureur Felipe Nasr staat het team van Manor Racing weer laatste in het constructeurskampioenschap. Het kleinste team van de grid maakte dit jaar een enorme sprong voorwaarts en scoorde in juli een punt met Pascal Wehrlein. Het leek er lang op dat Manor Racing het Zwitserse Sauber zou gaan verslaan, maar die renstal beleefde haar beste race van het seizoen in Brazilië. Er is een wonder nodig voor Manor om de tiende plaats terug te pakken van Sauber, maar Pascal Wehrlein gelooft er wel in.

Pascal Wehrlein, die waarschijnlijk volgend jaar ook voor Manor uitkomt, blikt alvast vooruit op de laatste race volgende week in Abu Dhabi: "We moeten alles geven en dan zien we wel waar het schip strandt. We moeten wel realistisch zijn en zullen blijven knokken totdat de vlag is gevallen. Alles moet kloppen: als je problemen hebt in een van de vrije trainingen of kwalificatie dan heb je daar in de race last van. We zullen alle kansen grijpen en moeten het nog beter doen dan in Oostenrijk."

Voor Manor en Sauber is er beide alles aan gelegen om tiende te worden bij de constructeurs. Het verschil in prijzengeld tussen een tiende en elfde plek in de constructeurs is vijftien miljoen. Sauber heeft iets meer financiële lucht door de overname eerder dit jaar, maar voor Manor is het prijzengeld een belangrijke inkomstenbron voor een goed budget.

  Benno@ betekend idd wat jij denkt. Ik voel me in de positie dat ik fouten meen te kunnen/moeten/mogen maken. Ik kom hier niet om onderlegd te worden. Mensen die daar menen hun dagtaak uit te kunnen halen zijn mijnsziens....(ach, oliedom wil ik niet zeggen. Dat niveau haal ik niet helaas;)
