Alonso: "Onze focus ligt al sinds Silverstone op 2017"

Na een dramatisch 2015 kan McLaren op een beter 2016 terugkijken. De roemruchte renstal uit Woking lijkt het kampioenschap als zesde af te gaan sluiten. Voor McLaren-standaarden nog steeds een mager resultaat, maar Fernando Alonso plaatst het in een ander daglicht. Volgens de wereldkampioen van 2005 en 2006 ligt de focus van zijn werkgever al heel lang op 2017.

Het beste resultaat van McLaren dit jaar zijn twee vijfde plaatsen van Alonso. De Spanjaard hoopt dat McLaren in de winter kan profiteren van de ingrijpende wijzigingen van het reglement. De auto's worden volgend jaar zwaarder, hebben meer neerwaartse druk en de banden worden een stuk breder. Alonso over de keuze van McLaren om zich al vroeg te richten op 2017: "De top zes staat voor de start van de race min of meer al vast. In een gekke race zijn er verrassingen, maar dat komt niet vaak voor. Wij zaten dit jaar achter Williams en Force India qua prestaties en in sommige races was Toro Rosso zelfs sterker. Veel maakt het nu niet meer uit, wij focussen ons al sinds Silverstone op 2017. Hopelijk kunnen we in de winter de grote stap zetten die we nodig hebben."

Alonso laat verder weten uit te kijken naar de nieuwe auto's van volgend jaar. De Spanjaard heeft zich altijd kritisch uitgelaten over de huidige reglementen: "Ik kijk zeker uit naar de nieuwe regels. Hier in Abu Dhabi zullen we in de race niet veel sneller zijn dan een GP2-auto en voelt de grip aan alsof je in de regen rijdt. Volgend jaar wordt dat hopelijk allemaal beter, ik kijk er erg naar uit."

Als je Button beluisterd op F1 website Facebook interview en in paddock pass preview dan snap je niet dat ze Vandoorne niet de laatste races hebben laten rijden. Button is niet in de race mood welke nodig en gewenst is voor F1 wat mij betreft. Hij zegt letterlijk dat hij in Brazilië langzaam ree... [Lees verder]

Als je Button beluisterd op F1 website Facebook interview en in paddock pass preview dan snap je niet dat ze Vandoorne niet de laatste races hebben laten rijden. Button is niet in de race mood welke nodig en gewenst is voor F1 wat mij betreft. Hij zegt letterlijk dat hij in Brazilië langzaam reed omdat het toch nog maar 2 races waren en niet wilde crashen. In Vandoorne zijn positie zou ik dan echt balen en denken van, had mij laten rijden, ik had wel willen racen.

  Alleen maar verliezers en dat is Ron aan te rekenen

  Als Stoffel dit jaar had gereden had hij ook een K seizoen gehad.
  Laat hem lekker in maart instappen en hopen dat McLaren zijn zaakjes voor elkaar heeft.
  
  Komt wel goed met Stoffel.

  Niet het gehele seizoen, maar laatste 2 of 3 races voor ervaring en gezien motivatie Button lijkt me vrij normaal. Vond het zelfs vreemd dat Vandoorne niet de VT1 kreeg.

Hoorde gisteren van zak dat de focus op 2018 ligt. Dan is Alonso al weg.
Gaan ze met Ford motoren rijden ;)

  Je maakt er een grap van, maar je weet dat Ford ...Cosworth tenminste een V6T F1 blok heeft liggen? Dat was een referentieblok toen ze begonnen aan deze motoren. Helaas nooit gebruikt, geen idee waarom niet, en of deze nog doorontwikkeld is, is ook maar de vraag echter, is het een feit dat ze hem wel hebben liggen. Zonder een bron te kunnen noemen is het volgens mij wel eens gepasseerd dat ome Bernie dit blok als goedkoop alternatief wilde gaan aanbieden bij diverse teams.
  
  Anyway, ik zou Cosworth graag terug zien in de F1.

  Ik kan me de discussie herinneren Turbo, maar ben bang dat de techniek van dat bewuste blok inmiddels behoorlijk achterhaald is.
  Zo denk ik overigens dat je een aardig fabriekshalletje kunt vullen met ontwikkelde maar nooit gebruikte motoren.
  Zo ken ik zo'n magazijn motortje (geen F1 blok, maar wel racemotor) dat via een achterdeur in een auto van een kennis is terecht gekomen
