Hobbel veroorzaakte uitvalbeurt van Bottas

Een hobbel op het Yas Marina Circuit was er de oorzaak van dat Williams-rijder Valtteri Bottas in Abu Dhabi al na zeven rondjes de strijd moest staken. De Fin werkte zich in de beginfase van de race op naar een negende plaats toen zijn auto opeens raar gedrag begon te vertonen. Een van de schokdempers in de wagen van Bottas had het begeven.

Het deed technisch directeur Pat Symonds denken aan de problemen die Williams vorig jaar in de VS ervoer. "Het ziet ernaar uit dat een hobbel op de baan het dit keer veroorzaakte", vertelt hij aan Autosport. "Abu Dhabi is vrij hobbelig, maar dat zou geen probleem mogen vormen. Waarschijnlijk is het vergelijkbaar met wat ons in 2015 in Austin overkwam."

"Dat weten we pas zeker zodra we de auto helemaal uit elkaar hebben gehaald en alles geanalyseerd hebben. We hebben voorzorgsmaatregelen getroffen om te zorgen dat het zich niet nogmaals zou voordoen, maar dit heeft er alle schijn van dat het om hetzelfde euvel gaat."
