Perez weet agressie tegenwoordig te beteugelen

Force India-coureur Sergio Perez heeft een uitstekend seizoen 2016 achter de rug. De Mexicaan verzamelde 101 punten. Hij is de eerste die namens Force India meer dan honderd punten scoort. Het sleutelwoord voor die knappe prestatie was volgens Perez 'ervaring'.

Hij deelde aan Autosport mede: "Ik probeer niet meer constant meer te doen dan mogelijk is. Het grootste deel van mijn carrière tot nu toe rij ik al voor teams uit de middenmoot en ik heb vaak getracht om er meer uit te halen dan erin zit. Dat is ook een aantal keer gelukt."

"Maar als de auto goed was voor een tiende plek, probeerde ik als zevende te eindigen. Dat is wanneer je fouten gaat maken. Ik heb geleerd om het maximum van mijn materiaal te benutten en mijn agressie te beteugelen. Ik ben nog jong en kan de komende jaren nog genoeg leren."

"Ik krijg volgend jaar te maken met een andere teamgenoot en van nieuwe invloeden kun je weer nieuwe dingen leren. Ik kan vast ook iets opsteken van Esteban Ocon en ik probeer altijd te leren van de engineers en de andere mensen waar ik mee samenwerk."

Ik vind dat Perez één van de coureurs is die zich de afgelopen jaren het meest positief heeft ontwikkeld. Het is echt een goede, constante rn snelle coureur geworden. Wel jammer dat hij nu wat minder spektakel brengt.
