Palmer heeft zijn plafond nog lang niet bereikt

Jolyon Palmer heeft nog veel meer in zijn mars dan hij tot nu toe in de Formule 1 heeft laten zien. Dat verkondigde Bob Bell, technisch directeur bij Renault, tegenover Autosport. Palmer debuteerde dit jaar in de Formule 1. De GP2-kampioen van 2014 kende een weifelend begin, maar gaandeweg het seizoen kwam hij steeds beter voor de dag. Het leverde hem een nieuw contract op.

Bell: "Ik weet niet of Jolyon even nodig had om het overweldigende van de Formule 1 te laten bezinken, om te wennen aan zijn auto en om uit te vogelen hoe hij het beste uit zijn materiaal moet halen. Ik weet niet of dit gewoon een kwestie van leren was voor hem, dat is heel goed mogelijk. Hoe dan ook, daarna heeft hij flinke progressie geboekt en een stijgende lijn tentoon gespreid."

"Dat is het belangrijkste, belangrijker dan de oorzaak waarom het eerst niet lukte. Ik geloof ook niet dat Jolyon zijn plafond al bereikt heeft, hij blijft zich verbeteren. Hij zal in 2017 dingen opsteken van Nico Hülkenberg. Daar staat Jolyon ook voor open. Hij wint continu aan gestalte. Als hij zich blijft ontwikkelen zoals in de tweede helft van dit seizoen, dan zal Palmer het volgend jaar goed doen."

    Ben wel nieuwsgierig of ie tegen de Hulk opgewassen is. Ik denk de eerste races wel, maar daarna zal het moeilijk worden voor hem.

      ik hoop eigenlijk dat er weinig verschil is tussen de twee. kan nog mooie gevechten voor positie opleveren (tenzij renault 1 vd 2 voor laat. renault heeft toch een handje in de controversie, met bv in 2008 crashgate. ik hoop het niet

    Ik heb geen hoge pet op van Palmer, geef hem eigenlijk weinig kans tegen de Hulk.
    Maar wel prima dat hij een riem onder het hart gestoken krijgt van zijn leiding, dat zal hem in ieder geval motiveren..
    Héél wat anders dan Sergio Marchionne die tijdens de kerstlunch van de Scuderia Vettel nog even een veeg uit pan geeft...

      Ik ben het eens met MAXIMAALVERSTAPPEN.
      Ook ik heb die indruk , daarbij vond ik hem steeds beter worden afgelopen seizoen....
      Ja , die is beter dan veel denken........maar dat is mijn mening

      Met uitzondering dan van Brazilië. Weliswaar zal de Renault in de regen zeker moeilijk te bsturen geweest zijn echter ik had van een Brit een beetje meer vaardigheid in het rijden in de regen verwacht..

    Het is geen topper denk ik, zeker als je naar zijn verleden kijkt. Maar als je hem met Magnussen vergelijkt over afgelopen jaar, dan deed hij het ook weer niet echt slecht. Denk dat hij toch zijn grote "kans" dankzij zijn pa heeft gekregen en ben benieuwt wat hij komend jaar laat zien.

    TDZ krijgt de vergelijking niet eens correct. Bob Bell heeft het hier over Palmer en het is dus niet Jolyon die veren in z'n eigen reet steekt zoals Ericsson, Sainz en Kvyat.
