Giovinazzi in actie voor klantenteams Ferrari

Antonio Giovinazzi is deze week benoemd tot derde rijder bij het team van Ferrari. Dat kwam als een grote verrassing voor de runner-up in de GP2 dit jaar. De 23-jarige Italiaan had niet verwacht dat Ferrari bij hem aan zou kloppen.

"Ik kan het nog steeds niet geloven, ik kan het nog niet bevatten", vertelde Giovinazzi aan Gazzetta dello Sport. "Ik denk dat ik het pas echt realiseer wanneer ik mijn rode overall aantrek en ik voor de eerste keer in de auto plaats mag nemen."

Ferrari praat met Sauber en Haas F1 Team over de mogelijkheid om Giovinazzi in 2017 ervaring op te laten doen in vrijdagtrainingen. Ferrari-teambaas Maurizio Arrivabene: "We praten met onze klantenteams zodat Antonio op vrijdagen bij Grands Prix in actie kan komen."

Testen tijdens het seizoen is erg beperkt (zeg maar: bestaat eigenlijk niet). De vrije trainingen op vrijdag zijn dan ook erg waardevol voor de ontwikkeling van de wagen en de kennis en ervaring die de vaste rijders daarmee opdoen.

    Met wat Ferrari steun zou ik gewoon proberen dat tweede stoeltje bij Sauber te krijgen. Het is niet veel, maar het is wel iets.

      Bij Sauber hebben ze de laatste jaren de ervaring dat een beetje paydriver minstens 10 miljoen mee brengt.
      Ik weet niet of Giovinazzi eigen sponsoren heeft, maar Ferrari (of welke motorfabrikant dan ook) gaat zeker geen 10 miljoen korting geven op de power Unit rekening...

      @RAMSHOEK: dat zou kunnen. Een ander mogelijk scenario is dat de stoelen bij Haas en Sauber al verdeeld zijn maar dit nog niet bevestigd is, hoewel ik dat voornamelijk bij Sauber betwijfel ;-)

      Denk dat wanneer meneer Gelael en Dennis de boel van Manor overnemen, de kans groter is dat hij daar komt te rijden.

    Als Ferrari dat zo graag wilt, laat hem dan gewoon een vrijdag training in de Ferrari rijden.
    Dan weet hij ook gelijk hoe deze wagen aavoelt buiten de simulator om.

    Angst hazen.
