Lance Stroll moet aanstaand Formule 1-debuut nog laten bezinken

In 2017 staat er voor het eerst sinds 2006 weer een Canadees op de Formule 1-grid in de persoon van Lance Stroll. Stroll werd in 2016 met overmacht kampioen in de Formule 3 en werd in november door het team van Williams bevestigd. Stroll laat weten dat het moeilijk is te beseffen dat hij in maart zijn Formule 1-debuut zal maken.

"Ik ben gek op de Formule 1. Ik volg de races al sinds ik een klein jongetje was. Het is moeilijk te beseffen dat ik in maart mijn eerste Formule 1 Grand Prix zal rijden. Het besef moet nog komen, ik denk dat dat pas komt wanneer ik plaats neem op de grid in Melbourne", aldus Stroll vanaf de Autosport International in Birmingham.

Stroll beseft zich maar al te goed dat het komende seizoen een grote uitdaging wordt vanwege de nieuwe regels: "Het wordt een flinke uitdaging. Ik heb een hoop te leren en zal moeilijke tijden kennen. Uiteraard zullen er ook mooie momenten zijn. Het wordt een interessante reis over de wereld, ik kijk er naar uit."
