Grosjean: "Seizoen sterk eindigen belangrijker dan sterk openen"

Romain Grosjean luisterde vorig jaar in Australië het debuut van Haas F1 op met een zesde plaats. Terugkijkend op de wintertest in Barcelona is hij erg tevreden en ging het volgens hem soepeler dan vorig jaar.

Grosjean over de testperiode: "Het ging goed, je kon duidelijk een verschil zien ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Het team was er veel meer klaar voor en iedereen wist wat hij moet doen." Er waren wat kleine problemen die volgens de Zwitser snel waren opgelost.

Nu in betere conditie dan vorig jaar

Hij heeft wel harder moeten werken dan vorig jaar. De wagens vergen onder de nieuwe regels veel meer van de coureurs. "Het ging goed, maar laat ik het zo zeggen: als ik in dezelfde conditie was geweest als vorig jaar zou ik totaal gesloopt zijn", aldus Grosjean.

De Haas F1 rijder denkt zelfs dat ze wellicht meer getraind hebben dan noodzakelijk, het was niet zo zwaar als dat op voorhand verwacht werd. Maar onderschatten doet hij het niet: "Sommige races gaan echt epic worden, zeker bij hoge temperaturen op een snel circuit."

Goed eindigen beter dan goede start van het seizoen

Vorig jaar ging het team goed van start, maar dit jaar is het volgens Grosjean vooral belangrijk om het seizoen goed te eindigen: "De auto's van 2018 zullen veel lijken op de auto's van dit jaar. Als je dus goed eindigt betekent het dat je de nieuwe reglementen goed onder de knie hebt en dat is de trend die je zet voor het volgende seizoen."

Vanmorgen liet Grosjean nog een zien dat hij druk bezig is voor de eerste race:

Daar trappen we niet in Romain, als je ook goed begint heb je nu ook al de nieuwe reglementen goed onder de knie. Dat is nog beter.
Dus geen kletspraatjes meer verkopen kleine boef van me. ;)
