Verstappen: "Altijd een manier om acties te maken"

De nieuwe reglementen voor de Formule 1 hebben de mogelijkheden om iemand in te halen er waarschijnlijk niet makkelijker op gemaakt, maar dat deert Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen niet. De 19-jarige Nederlander denkt dat er ook met de regels voor 2017 genoeg ruimte over blijft om andere rijders te passeren. Naar die ruimte gaat hij dit jaar weer op zoek.

Verstappen schrijft in zijn column voor Exact: "Dit is voor het eerst dat ik de voorbereiding op een seizoen meemaak bij Red Bull Racing. Dat is natuurlijk veel prettiger dan halverwege het seizoen in te stappen, aangezien ik nu overal over kan meebeslissen. De bredere banden waarmee we dit seizoen rijden, hebben impact op eigenlijk alles. Zelfs op de fabriek, waar sommige deuren moesten worden aangepast aan de bredere auto, en op de indeling van de pitbox."

"Ook bij Renault hebben ze niet stilgezeten de afgelopen maanden, want we hebben een compleet nieuwe motor. Mede door de tweede generatie Energy Recovery Systems (ERS), verwachten we er veel van. Tijdens de tests in Barcelona hebben we natuurlijk nog niet alles laten zien. Dat komt wel in Melbourne."

"Het is duidelijk dat de nieuwe aerodynamica ons in staat stelt om later te remmen, sneller te accelereren en met hogere snelheid door bochten te gaan. Dat geldt natuurlijk ook voor andere teams, waardoor er wordt gezegd dat inhalen lastiger zal zijn. Ook doordat de grotere downforce zorgt voor meer luchtverstoring als je achter iemand zit, waardoor je grip verliest. Zelf denk ik dat ik altijd wel een manier vind om acties te blijven maken."

De Red Bull Racing-rijder staat te popelen om het seizoen aan te vangen. "Ik ben blij dat de hele voorbereiding voorbij is en we vanaf nu weer lekker gaan racen. Hopelijk kan ik elke Grand Prix vooraan mee rijden en voor zeges strijden. Ik kan niet wachten tot de lichten in Melbourne op groen springen!"

vooral de zin 'Tijdens de tests in Barcelona hebben we natuurlijk nog niet alles laten zien. Dat komt wel in Melbourne' biedt hoop....

  Hij zegt het maar dat wisten we natuurlijk al ! Dat doen ze namelijk nooit. Andere teams doen dat meestal ook niet of in mindere mate maar dat blijft giswerk tot de finischvlag valt.
