Startveld in Australië op één na jongste grid ooit

De twintig Formule 1-coureurs die zondag aan de start stonden voor de Australische Grand Prix hadden een gemiddelde leeftijd van 26,80 jaar. Daarmee was het de op één na jongste grid aller tijden. Alleen vorig jaar was het startveld gemiddeld nog jonger.

In 2016 bedroeg de gemiddelde leeftijd van de rijders in de Formule 1 26,17 jaar. Ferrari-coureur Kimi Raikkonen is dit seizoen de oudste met zijn 37 jaar. Williams-debutant Lance Stroll is de benjamin van het stel. De Canadees is pas 18 jaar.

Het gemiddeld oudste startveld dateert uit 1951. Toen bedroeg de gemiddelde leeftijd 36,76 jaar.
