Antonio Giovinazzi ook in China standby om in te vallen

Antonio Giovinazzi maakte vorige week verrassend zijn Formule 1-debuut bij het team van Sauber. De runner-up van het GP2-kampioenschap in 2016 verving Pascal Wehrlein, die zich na de eerste vrije trainingen op vrijdag terugtrok. Wehrlein maakte in januari een vervelende crash mee tijdens de Race of Champions en voelde zich nog niet fit genoeg om een volledige raceafstand af te leggen. Giovinazzi, normaal gesproken reservecoureur bij Ferrari, was in Australië en kon zo zijn debuut maken tijdens een Grand Prix-weekend.

Onverdienstelijk deed Giovinazzi het zeker niet. De Italiaan kwalificeerde zich keurig als zestiende en finishte de race als twaalfde. Wehrlein liet in Melbourne weten er in China waarschijnlijk weer bij te zijn, maar Giovinazzi is door Sauber gevraagd om standby te staan in het geval dat Wehrlein zich nog niet fit genoeg voelt. Diverse sites meldden dat Giovinazzi het hele seizoen bij Sauber af zou gaan maken, maar dat is uiteraard een 1 april grap.

Pietje Bell.., dit soort gasten moeten gewoon tot het tandvlees gaan, en niet afhaken omdat ze MISSCHIEN een beetje moe worden..

    Op z'n hoogst een subtopper. Niks mis mee, is leuk voor de Italianen om weer iemand in de F1 te hebben, maar verder is het altijd een vrij saaie redelijk solide coureur geweest in de jaren hiervoor. Bij alle races die ik heb gevolgd waar hij aan mee deed reed hij best behoorlijk mee, maar was hij altijd zo'n coureur waarvan je vergat dat ie ook nog meedeed en dan als je de einduitslag nog eens door zat te nemen zag ik ineens dat hij ook nog op een redelijke plek was geindigd.

      Op zich ben ik dat met je eens, echter, net als sommige andere briljante coureurs, is GIO iemand die niet meteen vooraan hoeft te rijden, maar wel voor een solide toekomst kiest in F1. Hij maakt dat ook meteen waar net als VER dat deed op Interlagos, VT1 2014...Ik vergelijk hem een beetje met coureurs als BUT, ALE, WEB, BAR...

    Zolang de arrogante Wehrlein met weinig zelfreflectie maar weg blijf vind ik het best!

      Vind juist door te zeggen laat Giovinazzi maar rijden, ik kan niet goed presteren nu, zo slecht zelfs iemand die niet is voorbereid waarschijnlijk betere kansen heeft als ik, juist tonen aan zelf-reflectie.

      Menig top-sporter zou zijn plek niet afstaan.
      Ik denk als ik Pascal had geweest, ik nog er geen seconde aan had gedacht.. wellicht 2 gebroken benen me misschien had doen te besluiten het misschien geen goed idee is om te rijden, maar anders ik rij.

      Denk dat meeste coureurs er zo over denken, dus ik kan niet zeggen hij geen zelf-reflectie heeft.. juist wel.. dat hij een ander laat rijden.

      Wehrlein wist dat de kans groot was dat hij de race niet tot het einde kon volhouden.
      Dat hij dan een ander zijn plek in laat nemen, die wel de race uit kan rijden vind ik top.
      Hij had ook alleen maar aan zichzelf kunnen denken en denken: ik zie wel hoe het gaat.
      Hij heeft zichzelf opzij gezet in het belang van het team en dat is toch wel iets wat veel andere coureurs niet zo snel zouden hebben gedaan, denk ik.

      Je moet dit anders zien Misstappen, door deze actie heeft Werhlein onbedoelt denkelijk wel, de deur voor Giovinazzi open gezet, en juist die voor zichzelf een stukje meer gesloten.

      Mocht Werhlein in China weer niet van de partij zijn, en Giovinazzi rijd zich weer in de kijkert, kan je bijna wel stellen het over is voor Wehrlein, of zal ieder geval veel schade oplopen, wanneer hij zelf dan weer als een grijze muis in de Sauber zit.

      IGG, door zijn toedoen is onbewust dus een nieuwe speler om de hoek komen kijken.

      Motorcoureurs rijden met botbreuken al sinds jaar en dag gewoon door, die laten zich alleen vervangen als het ze niet gelukt is om de dokter om te kopen ;)

      Ik kan heel veel begrip op brengen voor mensen die goed naar hun eigen lichaam luisteren en weten wanneer het genoeg is. Tot hier en niet verder.
      Een coureur moet in top conditie verkeren en 100% gefocust kunnen
      zijn op wat hij doet, anders kan hij zichzelf en de andere coureurs in
      gevaar brengen.

      Ben jij trouwens diegene die bepaalt of Wehrlein wel of niet tot het
      tandvlees is gegaan?

      De haat richting Wehrlein is er nog steeds zo te zien. Best apart want ik had wel wat sympathie na de keren dat hij in de Manor Q2 haalde en een punt pakte.
      Niet zozeer vanwege zijn ietswat arrogant ogende hoofd en dito kapsel maar sympathie voor zijn race kwaliteiten. En daar gaat het in de F1 toch om?

      Neemt niet weg dat ik Giovinazzi een sensatie vond. Beide verdienen hun plekje dit jaar in de F1.

    Zal die Giovinazzi niet een ruilmiddel zijn zolang Sauber niet met geld over de brug komt indien daar sprake van is....?

    In 1997 zou Verstappen met de Sauber Ferari gaan rijden, Larini kreeg voorrang, Italiaan met een Ferrari. Uiteraard vette speculaas.
