Wens Max Verstappen komt uit: het regent in Shanghai

Waar iedereen op hoopte maar wat de lokale Piet Paulusma al wist: het regent in Shanghai! Max Verstappen hoopte al op regen om zo aan een indrukwekkende inhaalrace te kunnen beginnen. Maar of het ook tijdens de start regent valt nog te bezien. De eerste auto's gaan de baan op, Red Bull en Mercedes met intermediates, anderen met de full wets.

Max Verstappen kreeg na de kwalificatie plek 19 toebedeeld wegens motorproblemen, maar Grosjean en Palmer werden vijf plekken teruggezet omdat zij bij dubbele gele vlaggen niet van het gas waren afgegaan. Die gele vlaggen waren voor de crash van Giovinazzi die ook vijf plaatsen werd teruggezet omdat hij zijn versnellingsbak moest wisselen. Max Verstappen heeft nu de twee McLarens van Alonso en Vandoorne voor zich staan met daar tussen de Sauber van Ericsson.
