Toto Wolff: "Het wordt dit seizoen ping pongen met Ferrari"

Sky Sport F1 pakte op de paddock na de ceremonie gelijk Toto Wolff op, de winnende teambaas van Mercedes. Hij loopt met een grote glimlach rond, enerzijds omdat hij vandaag of morgen vader wordt, anderzijds vanwege…. Niki Lauda?

Hamilton is van buitengewone klasse

Toto Wolff: “Ik heb een heel goed gevoel, vandaag weer een weddenschap gewonnen van Niki net als gisteren over pole, dat levert mooi twintig euro op.” Als het gesprek naar de race gaat dan geeft hij de complimenten aan winnaar Lewis Hamilton natuurlijk: “Als Lewis zijn dag heeft dan is hij van buitengewone klasse. Op een lastige dag als vandaag wil ik niemand anders in de auto hebben.”

Dan komt het gesprek op Bottas die een hele beroerde race had. Wolff: “Hij verknalde het achter de safety car, daar verloor hij de race. Hij had de snelheid, maar als je zoveel plaatsen verliest moet je mentaal herstellen en dat deed hij goed. Nu is het zaak om daarvan te herstellen. Analyseren en vergeten, het is pas zijn tweede race.”

Ping Pong met Ferrari

Ferrari en Mercedes hebben nu allebei een overwinning en stiekem lijkt Toto Wolff het gevecht wel te waarderen. “Dit jaar moeten we weer vechten voor de plaatsen. Wat wij de laatste drie jaar hebben gezien was een uitzondering. Dit seizoen gaat het ping pongen worden met Ferrari, de ene keer zijn wij beter, de andere keer Ferrari.

Dit jaar geen ping pong binnen het team maar met een ander team.
Nog wel ff wennen want Bottas z'n engineer noemde hem NICO over de radio :-)

  mercedes is nog steeds dominant. hebben gewoon slechte strat call gemaakt in australie. als vorig jaar de race niet afgevlagd was had vettel australie 2016 ook gewonnen

  Dat ie uitliep op Verstappen wil niets zeggen natuurlijk, Vettel zet Verstappen ook gewoon op een halve minuut, ondanks er bijna een halve race achter te zitten. Aan het einde reden beide nog een snelste ronde, Hamilton geen half tiende sneller dan Vettel. Had heel spannend kunnen zijn zonder de SC.
