Het drukke schema van Alonso richting de Indy 500

McLaren-coureur Fernando Alonso zal de komende weken veel tijd in vliegtuigen doorbrengen. De Spanjaard neemt eind mei namelijk deel aan de Indy 500 en is daar zeer enthousiast over, maar hij moet er ook veel voor over hebben. Zo vliegt hij binnen een tijdsbestek van vier weken in elk geval vijf keer de Atlantische Oceaan over.

Alonso heeft zich een hectisch schema op de hals gehaald. Na Bahrein vliegt hij naar Alabama om daar de IndyCar-race van volgende week bij te wonen en de teamleden te ontmoeten. Op de maandag na die wedstrijd laat hij zijn stoeltje schuimen, waarna hij op het vliegtuig naar Rusland stapt. Na de Russische Grand Prix vliegt hij naar Indianapolis.

Daar zal Alonso plaatsnemen in de simulator. De Spanjaard hoopt dan ook voor het eerst met de IndyCar-auto te testen, maar dat is nog niet zeker. Op 8 mei keert de Spanjaard dan terug naar eigen land om zich voor te bereiden op de Spaanse Grand Prix. Een dag na de race in Barcelona gaat hij dan weer naar Indianapolis voor de trainingen en voorbereidingen op de Indy 500.

Alonso: "In het vliegtuig zal ik naar video's van de Indy 500-races van de voorbije jaren kijken en daar wat van te leren. Je hebt compleet andere vaardigheden nodig voor dit evenement. Ik moet me aanpassen aan de auto, het circuit, de strategie, het racen op die snelheden en zo dicht bij elkaar. Ik heb nog veel te leren en ben er nu nog niet klaar voor."

Hij mist maar één F1 wedstrijd, maar afgezien daarvan kost het nog veel meer tijd die niet aan de F1 besteed kan worden natuurlijk. Nu denk ik niet dat Alonso daar qua racen in de F1 heeeeel veel last van zal hebben, maar toch...

Ik denk overigens dat "even" de 24H van Le Mans rijden een makkelijker opgave (als relatief natuurlijk) is dan "even" de Indy500 rijden.

Blijf het gaaf vinden dat hij het avontuur aan gaat!

  Kan Alonso goed begrijpen, hij wil eens een keer een race uitrijden joh.

Het mooie aan het verhaal is natuurlijk dat hij jetlags voor kan blijven, aangezien hij natuurlijk prive vliegt en dus gewoon lekker kan slapen. Dus in principe is er weinig aan de hand
