Jenson Button maakt in Monaco pas eerste meters in de McLaren

Jenson Button zal in de eerste vrije training op de vrijdag tijdens de Grand Prix van Monaco voor het eerst in de MCL32 van McLaren plaatsnemen. De voormalig wereldkampioen vervangt in die race Fernando Alonso die de Indy 500 gaat rijden.

Zware opgave

Ondanks al zijn ervaring zijn de huidige wagens toch beduidend anders dan die van vorig jaar en direct instappen zonder kilometers gemaakt te hebben zal een zware opgave zijn. Nu kent hij het circuit van Monte Carlo natuurlijk erg goed en won hij de race in 2009. Toch is het opvallend dat McLaren hem niet laat testen in Bahrein bijvoorbeeld.

Natuurlijk kan je in de simulator al het nodige trainen, maar veel coureurs slaan die over en dat heeft ook een reden, ze zijn niet echt fan van de simulator. Toch twijfelde Button geen moment volgens Zak Brown, directeur van het McLaren Formule1-team: "Toen we Jenson Button belden, twijfelde hij geen moment. Het is geweldig nieuws dat we in Monaco een voormalig coureur van ons en wereldkampioen in de auto hebben. Jenson houdt van het circuit en wist de race in 2009 te winnen", aldus Brown in de persconferentie voor teambazen in Bahrein.

"Monaco, baby!"

Maar met 308 races in 17 jaar Formule 1 weet Button ongetwijfeld waar hij aan begint, dus maken wij ons geen zorgen.

Wie herinnert zich dit moment uit de oude doos: Button wint de Grand Prix Monaco. Hij schreeuwt uit: "Monaco, baby!" maar parkeert zijn auto op de verkeerde plek en moet een sprintje trekken om op tijd bij het podium te zijn.

Ik had hem altijd laten testen in Bahrein. Lekker om zonder testen in te stappen bij de GP van Monaco.

  Dus Jenson heeft donderdag 2 en zaterdag 1 om klaar voor te zijn voor Q1
  En op zondag een goed resultaat
